“One of the too few green corners in Beirut”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2014

I never thought that I would ever experience the smell of freshly mowed grass in Beirut. But lo and behold: I did!
The Azadea Foundation was able to resist the pressure to transform the Rene Moawad–Sanayeh Garden into yet another car park and restored the park to its former beauty. An anomaly in the massive concrete block that is the city of Beirut. Must have cost them an arm and a leg, not only the restoration but also maintenance now and security to keep the place safe and the visitors civilized (there’s more security then at an average European airport ☺) Kudos to them.
In the neighbourhood where I live (Snoubra) I am treated to half an hour of areal firing from a few hundred yards away at least once a week for no other reason than Bashar Al Assad or a Hezbollah sheikh appearing on TV but also just a few hundreds of yards away in the other direction there’s the fantastic Hamra street, Bliss Street, Verdun, the Corniche and the Mediterranean and now Sanayeh Garden. The nice more than neutralizing the bad…
