My travel agent recommended this four star hotel. Only after I checked out after the first of what were to be five nights at The Plaza Hotel, I learned she hadn't visited for two years.
Things didn't get off to a good start when I was checked into a room that was already occupied by another guest, someone who wasn't happy to see me. The room I was ultimately assigned was small and very worn: The guest safe didn't work, some of the furniture was beaten up, the internet connection didn't work, there was not enough room to fit my legs under the desk.
The bathroom was in worse shape: Only after taking a shower did the duty manager told me that the water has to run for five to 10 minutes before it becomes hot. There never was any hot water in the sink. (If you have to stay here -- and I do not advise it -- take a room on the top floor since the hot water reaches these rooms first, apparently.) There was no stopper in the sink and the regulator that directs water to the shower rather than the bath worked only occassionally.
The line staff was cheerfula nd tried to solve these problems but they were hampered by the poor facilities. The duty manager kept saying nice things but delivered no solutions.
I choose to check into another hotel for the rest of my stay. The Plaza is well located and has nice public areas. Judged by its rooms, it is definately a three star hotel masquerading as a four start. Keep moving.
