This is the lively part of the city. You can enjoy a nice glass of wine or a beer at any of the pubs..

“Entertaining”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

The street has changed alot compared to 5 years back, it used to have alot of small boutique shops with trendy lebanesse fashion which was unique, now the street is full of the mega international stores H&M, Vero Moda,...etc where it is the same fashion almost everywhere in the world.

However the street is still entertaining, recommended for a lazy breakfast or a good cup of coffee. also it is parallel to Makdessi street where there are tens of bars with cool parties and live music sometimes.

it was sad to see a big increase number of beggars specially kids, they bothered us at the begining as they stood right in front of us as we walk (we had to be alert not to pump into those small children) , some of them touch and poke, but after a while we got used to it.

“It's back”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2012

Once, this was one of Beirut's most prominent street if not its most prominent. Now, it's back, for better or for worse.

It has a very good number of clothes/accessories shops with good brands.

The restaurants are varied from strictly take away, to fast food, to casual to formal (they could have more formal, but it doesn't suit the style of the street, nor its space).

The pub scene at Hamra has started to compete with Monot and Gemmayze!

It is a great place to walk through or window shop, because you will always find a cafe or cafe/restaurant close at hand to relax at.

only one setback: the car traffic.
