“Did not giv deposit back”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2011

The hotel was ok. We got a room with a bad view and both cleaning and room service were note very professional – they forgot toilet paper, didn’t give us everything we ordered on all three occasions we ordered room service and the pool was not heated although it was winter time in Beirut.

Internet costs 10USD per day! Very high costs.

All that would have been fine but the hotel hasn’t given us our 100USD deposit back and refuses to reply to our emails. That is stealing.

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. The amount of $100 was indeed pre-authorised on your credit card as a deposit against any extras that may be purchased during your stay. Upon check-out the front desk agent should purchase the $100 and any additional amount over and above the $100 that you had spent. In error the agent took the whole amount you had spent as one new purchase, ignoring the pre-authorised amount of $100. Please be assured that the pre-authorised amount is not taken by the hotel; since we have not purchased it, the amount is automatically reimbursed after a few days (usually between 10-21 days) and will show on your next statement. Please accept our sincere apologies for this clerical error and rest assured that all other comments regarding your stay are being fully investigated and acted upon by the management team.

My family and I stayed in 2 rooms at this hotel in late December. The rooms were clean and good sized. There was a mix up in room assignment due to travel agent error, and the staff was able to accomodate a change to a non-smoking room within 24 hours. We loved the breakfasts at this hotel. There is a great selection of middle eastern, euoropean and american style food, but we stuck to the traditional middle eastern cusine of fresh olives and cheeses! So delicious! The area is safe to walk through in the evenings, and only a few minutes from the popular Hamra district and AUB. The prices are also very good for what you are getting in Beirut. We felt very safe and at home at this hotel and would highly recommend it.

When i arrived at the Gefinor I was surprised that it is 5 star rated. It is more like a 4 star hotel... This has more to do with the hotel itself rather than the personnel: the lobby is dated, the breakfast area is small (had to wait for a table most days), the carpets need changing etc.
The personnel are very welcoming and the service was in general very good. The only personnel struggling were the ones at breakfast where it is obviously understaffed.
The breakfast food quality was not good at all, it gives the impression that you eat old food.
Overall I think you should keep your expectations low as it may be difficult to get something better in Beirut in that nice location.

I’d say for 5 star it was not that great! Rooms were small and I have had some issues with bathroom which thou been fixed quite quickly. However everything would have been all right, if not an interesting trick which reception tried to do with me. I payed for room upon check out and did it by cash with no problem and was given all receipts, and left my luggage in luggage room till evening. When I came to pick up suitcases hotel tried to trick me by saying that I payed with fake dollars. And tried to ask me to exchange it, thou by looking at dollars I was 100 % sure that it was not my money and guy was just trying to full me. Had to deal with management to sort thing out and was given apology, but whole stay was ruined in these hotel. Pls watch out for such tricks at these hotel.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2010

We stayed at the Gefinor Rotana for eight nights, that being our second visit to this oustanding property. The rooms, though not over-large, are comfortable and the service is attentive. Two bottles of water every day. Laundry picked up and delivered the same day without fail. Very sleep-worthy mattress. Great quantity and variety of good food at the breakfast buffet. Staff is responsive to customer requests. The hotel is in the "real" Beirut, not isolated in the glitz of center city. There are people on the neighboring streets at all hours and one gets the feel of the City. Especially convenient for visits to American Universty of Beirut. My only reservation is their practice of charging for wi-fi--an out-dated and silly thing to do these days.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2010

This is a standard upper class hotel. It has comfortable, generous rooms, all the comforts one expects. The breakfast was very nice and varied. Wireless was not free, but at least it was not very expensive and the 1 hour package turned out to work for two days. The location is also very good. Good business center for scanner and printer and free usage.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2010

We stayed at the Gefinor Rotana for only one night (August 18) in Room 711. The hotel is no different than any major hotel- contemporary and full of amenities.

Our room (though not overly spacious) was modern, clean, and had a balcony (city view).

The hotel has free parking (underground lot). It has a modern fitness center that looks out to the pool. It has an amazing rooftop pool overlooking Beirut and the sea. There is a poolside bar, as well. The young poolside bartender could not have been more friendly. The hotel stay includes breakfast, which because of our early flight, we could not enjoy. We did have room service and the food was very good.

The location of the hotel is just four or five blocks from the American University. (Suggestion- stop in to the Archeology musuem on campus- it is free). The district that the hotel is in is called El Hamra.
