My husband has been working In Beirut on and off for over a year and I was finally convinced to go with him. Although I felt uncomfortable around the town I really have to recommend the Hotel. On the sea it has its own beach which was being refurbished while I was there. Where to begin . . . Rooms great and good size by English standards although I can understand Americans finding them small. We had a large balcony overlooking the sea, lsuede covered armchair and pouffe, table, internet access (although we felt the price for this was a rip off) tv wil around 70 channels (still nothing to watch) huge bed wonderful white bedlinen, really comfy pillows and mattress. Large bathroom, so many toiletries we could have opened a shop. Loads of towels, bath robes, slippers etc. Air conditioning very efficient. Restaurant Mediterinee was the buffet restaurant for all meals and the range is superb so many people (including me) took photos of the superb range of foods. The Lebanese Restaurant is also goos, Lebanese wine is good too. There are 3 outdoor pools all of which are nice although too cold for me in April, hundreds of sun beds with very attentive life guards and waiting staff, pool towels are supplied. Lunch here is minimalist very limited menu but if you have a good breakfast who needs lunch! I can thoroughly recommend the fresh strawberry juice. Indoor facilities are good great pool jacuzzi and gym and again robes towels and slippers are supplied, free use of all facilities as a guest. Hemingways the bar is open 24/7 and has a nice atmoshpere live music most nights.
The only down side that we could see was the constant smoking our room had been used by a smoker prior to us but its a national pastime so little you can do to escape it - however we learnt that there are some non smoking rooms available but we learnt this too late for it to be of any help to us.
I can definitely recommend the Hotel and for the rating of 5* luxury we felt that it was very well priced.
