“Nice experience, but hotel needs some upgrading”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2010

I stayed here ten days during my last trip to Beirut. I only came to this hotel because my previous hotel was completely booked for the various music festivals and I needed to stay close in the area. The hotel is near to Hamra Street, so easy to walk over there for the shops and restaurants. The hotel itself has an Italian restaurant (you can even eat out by the pool) as well as a Benihana. I ate once at the Italian restaurant and it was pretty good, although perhaps a bit pricey. There are many restaurants nearby and the Younnes Cafe around the corner from the Commodore offers 2 hours of free wifi with coffee or a meal ... you'll want to go there since the cost of the wifi in the hotel borders on outrageous (see other reviews)!! I was fortunate to be placed on the 8th floor which give access to an upstairs lounge that is quite nice in the evening with drinks, snacks and large sofas for chatting or watching the large screen TV. There's an expresso machine in this lounge, too. The room was all right, the bed comfortable and the fresh air from the porch was nice, too. The bathroom was modern, although the shower curtain was hung way too far into the tub such that is stuck too me every time I took a shower (yes, I do that hate that). The breakfast was pretty good, with eggs to order and lots of breads and assorted local dishes. The coffee was NOT good ... just tasteless although, it did not look weak. The room did have a coffee pot and water (not so common in Beirut) so I could at least make a cup or two or tea. The pool is large, but the hotel actually puts a fair amount of it in shade in the afternoon - I don't think they had much choice on the location. The gym is small. The business center is just adequate. The staff were quite friendly and helpful, no complaints there and no language difficulties. I had a good stay at this hotel, but I'm too sure how the price compares with some of the newer properties. The location is good and even the beach isn't all that far away.

I stayed for 2 nights recently, and was disappointed, again, in what I found - as another reviewer said, this used to be a really good hotel but simply doesn't cut it any more. The room was dowdy, service generally OK, breakfast not that great....there are plenty of other places in Beirut that'll give you more for your money. Wireless internet was ridiculously expensive at $25 / 24hrs.

When we arrive we were very disapointed about the room .the furniture were not up to date more like 1970 and in a very bad shape the curtains were almost falling from the rack. The lamps shade were all dirty. So I decided to go back to the reception and told us that we did not want to stay in this room. The staff were nice we had to wait for 2 hours but they gave us a room in the bussines floor which was relly nice. The hotel is very close to Hamra street. Breakfast nothing special l and the staff in the morning in the restarant were terrible they seemed like they did not want to be there we had to serve ourself coffee. The guy who made the omelette was very unproffessional so did the manager of this restaurant who droop something on the floor and ask me to pick it up!!!! Would not go there it is not worth the money that we spent .If you lokk for a good hotel in Beyrouth go to the Casa D or hotel nearby or the excellen Coral Suite Hotel wich is excellent

The Commodore Hotel is situated in the heart of the Hamra district of Beirut. As a previous reviewer has stated its situation is very difficult for coaches to reach because of narrow streets and chaotic parking, but it only takes a couple of minutes to walk to Hamra Main Street, and our coach did manage to negotiate to drop us off and collect us at the start and end of our stay so we had no problem with luggage. I was, however, quite surprised that we were required to take our own luggage to our room, no porter service was offered, but it was very late at night and a skeleton staff seemed to be on reception, although during our four days there we could not complain about the friendliness of the staff.

The room was adequate, the air conditioning definitely needed overhauling as it was not working efficiently, but both the bedroom and the bathroom were clean and the bed very comfortable. We had problems with the safe - having used it, we could not then open it and had to summon assistance, which was very prompt.

Breakfast was adequate and one evening we ate in the Italian restaurant which was good, except for a steak that was asked for medium rare, and came blue.

Overall no real complaints - but just an "ordinary" experience.

I stayed at Le commodore for 2 nights. The first night i arrived, i was shocked to see that my bed was not clean... so i called the housekeeping and they changed my bed linens immediately. Breakfast was good...although it was unclear on the room menu what time the complementary breakfast ended...so all my colleges and I missed it on the second day and had to eat outside. Room supplies are great...however i had to ask twice for a loofah.
Rooms are not bad but should be cleaner ; the bathroom was not cleaned on a daily basis but towels were changed everyday.
The hotel gym is very small

The hotel is conveniently located to shopping (2 blocks) but not convenient in any manner for tour buses which have trouble navigating the street. We were required to walk two blocks--each way--to catch the bus on ht main street in traffic. Rooms are modestly clean--we had to ask for the room to be groomed on one of our 3 days. Room ammenities are excellent but the supply of towels and face cloths had, constantly, to be requested for replacement. Lobby is spacious but smoking is widespread--as it is all over Lebanon--and this can cause some discomfort for older travellers. Service was attentive although often language was an issue. Food in the breakfast service room was very good but they tried a dinner which did not work very well. Staff is helpful and polite. Some noise during the night from local bars or clubs.

This is a Hotel that advertises itself as a 5 star Hotel, but doesn't worth more than 2 stars.
Stayed in this Hotel a few years ago, when it was le Meridien Commodore and i have to say that it was a great Hotel.
Went back a week ago for 4 days and was a BIG dissapointment!. This Hotelneeds a total face lift:
1. The walls are very dirty and stained
2. The furnishings in the room are very old and scratched
3. Light fictures are old, stained, dirty and some broken
4. Wooden floors are stained, scratched and dirty
5. With an outside temperature of 14 degrees celcium, there was no heating but rather air condition on
6. A very old TV that don' think they sell them anymore
If all these were in a 2 star Hotel, it could be partially accepted. But for a 5-star Hotel is unacceptable!!
if this was a Hotel that was priced $50 a night, it could be accepted, but this is a Hotel that charges $160 per night!!!...TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE
