“Buzzy location. Great Service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2011

Our stay started badly when the reservation staff insisted that we had booked 2 rooms for 4 nights & paid for 1, the 2nd room could not be cancelled & we must pay for it. Whereas we contended that we had booked 1 room for 4 nights , paid for it & that we did not see why we needed to pay this phantom other room. Not good. We were only hours in Beirut & already thinking that we were going to be ripped off. After a 15 minute stand off, the staff agreed that the 2nd room would be cancelled & we would not need to pay. A good ending to what was probably some glitching in the booking system. Other that this initial unpleasantness, I was very happy with the Crowne Plaza.

Pros
[1] Hamra main road & adjacent Makdissi street is a very happening location. Lots of shops, bars, cafes only steps away from the hotel. We would particularly recommended Danny's Bar [a Bar], De Prague [Cafe & Bar], Wadi Walima [restaurant ] & Casablance [Excellent restaurant further away - near the Corniche]
[2] Service. The staff were very helpful. They upgraded us to a superior room. We guessed that there was few guests in the hotel [due to Ramadan] so an upgrade was an easy choice & a very nice gesture. My husband is Premier Club member so this would also be a factor.
[3] Our room [room 1204] was high up so we had a view of the sea. Nice big room. Very clean. Complimentary fruit.

Some small negatives
[1] The swimming pool is in a odd location - in the middle of the hotel restaurant.
[2] No complimentary wifi.

Overall would stay here again when back in Beirut.

Our experience of the hotel was much more positive than some of the reviews in TripAdvisor. Could this be the same hotel?

A taxi from the airport to the hotel should cost 15 USD. We paid 30 USD + the driver demanded a tip so all together 35 USD. We were new to Beirut. Next time we know the going rate. Bargain hard!!!

Taxis from the hotel to Gemayzeh & Achrafieh should be around 10k Lebanese pounds. So always start from there. If they look for more just walk away & ask the next taxi driver for a price. In nearly every case the previous taxi driver will come running after you saying that 10k is fine. I think we had to pay 12K only once & that was at 2am in the morning. Also tipping taxis is not a necessity. What is always necessary is to ask for a price before you sit into the taxi.!!!

Room Tip: Room 1204 is near the lift & has a view

I went to CP Beirut with my sister & Friend, they upgraded us to a superior sea view room.. it was really nice, the hotel is beautiful, perfect location as it is in the middle of Hamra and its close to a lot of places there..it is located in the middle of the shopping street where you can shop till you drop, don't forget the restaurants there..Deek Duke is yummy restaurant in the same center where the hotel is.
the staff are really nice and helpful...excellent hotel, I will definitely go again..
my sister and friend enjoyed their time as well...
btw there's a street with couple of pubs that open till 4:00 am its called "the alley way" I think it's the new Jemmazyeh...they have happy hour as well....its the small street beside Starbuck on the main Hamra street

Well when we arrived it was surprising that bell boy knew our name and was very but that was the best of it so far, receptionists didn't had our reservation, took them one hour to figure out and to accommodate us, slow unfriendly unhelpful, and considering that we were only people checking in at this time. We asked if we have internet we had to pay for it and they had no idea what speed it is, and considering the fact that in Beirut has slow internet, that was bad sign, the room was ok, what about Internet we received a letter shortly that told us that speed is 2 mb/s well wasn't bad and we asked an hour which i don't remember how much cost but when we tried to use it was definitely not worth any money we couldn't load a single page what about speed test page wouldn't load too how that for a speed. Receptionist couldn't find the position of their hotel on the map, i'm not talking about getting some directions. But i guess is mostly a problem not just in hotel, some taxi drivers would get lost in central places like hamra.
In the evening we got another problem, water from tap was dark red, from rust, after trying to solve the problem which wasn't that easy, we finally gave up and asked for a manager, he moved us to another room, because they couldn't fix the problem in our room, other room was nicer but wather was not running at all, and we tried to call again reception which took 20 min someone to answer, well in the end late night at 10 finally we could take a shower which was still not clear but better than before.
So far for experience in this hotel wasn't pleasant, i would expect this problem in a cheap hotel not there.

I travel to Lebanon a lot on business, but this is my first stay in the Crowne Plaza.

Lebanon gets very pricey in the summer, and I the Crowne Plaza is a business hotel, especially during the summer. The staff were nice, the rooms were clean, the hotel clean.

I stayed in a non-smoking room, but could smell faint cigarette smells that would only go away when I turned on the AC. I am assuming that is from the vents from a guest that was smoking on the non-smoking floor.

Being a business hotel, I was really annoyed at the pricey AND slow internet. Also I was unimpressed that even though I was in a double room, only one person could use the connection at a time, or if we wanted we could buy another internet card. SIGH. I strongly suggest to go to the Dunkin' Donuts at the end of the road, have a coffee and you get free internet. Faster than the one in the hotel. However just to clarify, internet in Lebanese hotels are not that good or very pricey, so this was not new to me. But ususally they have a free access and to upgrade speed you pay.

Room service was pricey so I didn't bother, there are amazing restaurants right under the hotel.

Breakfast was very good, and staff were very nice.

Overall it was a nice stay and I would go there again if I am on business.

Room Tip: Non-Smoking!

This is a large and generic hotel with good and bad aspects, but it is only worth a stay if you find a bargin. Pros are friendly staff, good breakfast, free entrance to a great fitness club next door. Cons are: the room smelled strongly of stale smoke (this is very common in Lebanon, but they need more non-smoking rooms and floors. only a small indoor pool, overpriced Internet access ($6 for an hour !). One day I was out from 8 to 5:30, came back hot and tired only to find that they had not come to clean the room yet by 5:30! So again, this hotel is only worthwhile if you find a great bargin.

I am staying at this hotel for business reasons. It is centrally located, with swimming pool, training facilities, 2 restaurants, free breakfast for our company. I was upgraded due to my Platinium member and the room is clean and big enough. Good armchair for the desk, which is usually the weak spot at Intercontinental.

Internet is free of charge - this is something that I am dear about. However the connection is not very good, I can't seem to get access through my iPhone. Internet speed is above average.

However... for this price I would expect all these anyway. I would recommend a stay here in case you have points to spend. Otherwise sure you'll find other hotels for half the price, if you plan to visit Beirut.
