I was visiting family in Beirut and was lucky enough to be invited to Maki. I had been promised a very special, high-quality Japanese fusion meal. I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical. I went, and am I glad I did! To begin with, the atmosphere was definitely elegant and classy. Service staff was very attentive and helped with suggestions from the wonderful inclusive menu. Needless to mention, the menu being on an I pad system that hooked straight to the kitchen was something I did not expect to see in Beirut! When the food started to arrive, I could tell that my experience was going to be a special one. I particularly enjoyed the signature Amer Maki that had wild thyme and olive oil, healthy and flavorful items you would not find in a maki roll elsewhere. Our Oliver Maki salad was so flavorful I almost ate the whole thing alone. The chicken teppan with vegetables was cooked to perfection. Oh, and dessert was so delectable. We ordered the Popcorn Pain Perdu. A very delicious interpretation of the French dessert presented with caramel sauce, ice cream, whipping cream and, yes, pop corn. I have been to some of the best Japanese restaurants in the US and abroad, and I have to say, Maki is definitely a cut above the rest when it comes to quality and creativity. My next Beirut trip will surely include a trip to Maki!
