“The start of the Unification of Saudi Arabia”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

This is an interesting place. In 1902, the later King Abdulaziz with his group of men took over the palace from its enemies. From here he started the process of unifying Saudi Arabia. It is an old building, traditional with very thik walls and interesting historical equipment. it is strategically positioned next to the old souq, a nice place to visit.

“Very interesting museum!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

Masmak is a fascinating museum and park. The exhibits are well done and the inside/outside nature of the place makes for a lovely day. But it also means that most of the museum is NOT air conditioned so it can get quite warm depending on when you go.

As applies to anything in Riyadh, make sure you check the hours before you head out.

Separate but related, the restroom facilities are open to the public and are absolutely top notch, probably some of the nicest, cleanest public restrooms in this part of Riyadh!

I teach in Saudi. Visited Masmak Fort and Souq last night. Was really worth it. Good atmosphere, had coffee at the coffee shop overlooking the Fort. Loved the souq, people so friendly!

“Good stop in old Riyadh”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2013 via mobile

This old fort has some good displays chronicling the current Saudi state, well displayed in English as well as Arabic. Worth a stop, free of charge, if you are in the old part of Riyadh which is otherwise crumbling at the moment but slated for some restoration we were told.
