“If you're in Riyadh, this is where you want to be”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2011

Many things make this an outstanding hotel:

* the best gym you'll ever work out in: airy, high-ceiling, loads of machines, helpful staff
* four great restaurants
* super comfortable beds
* wonderful staff who make it their business to know you by name (I can't imagine how they do it...even staff who I've never met know my name on sight). It's stunning to discover how big a difference such a welcome makes when you're half a world away from home.

The Four Seasons is a reliably top performing hotel although you will pay for this performance. The recently refurbished rooms are large, comfortable with good views of the city. Room service is excellent with a nice variety of choices. The service is excellent with strong attention to detail. Staff is professional, cordial and up to typical Four Seasons standards. The fitness gym is top notch with the latest equipment providing cold water, towels, showers, etc. Generally, even during busy periods, you can find available equipment.

Two areas of improvement would be the buffet (breakfast or dinner) where food is inconsistent and overpriced. It would be nice to have a less expensive option if you just want coffee and a croissant (especially if you are in a rush). The second area is the speed of the checkin/check out process which is painfully slow.

When the front desk justifies poor service and 4 room changes due to the odour of smoke on a non smoking floor by stating sir this is Saudi Arabia and you can not expect the same as a Four Seasons elsewhere you know something is wrong

The hotel feels like a fortress. Located in a landmark tower. Great views. The one bedroom suite was clean and nice but somewhat bland and with no character. Feels like a business lounge in an airport really. Poor value for money especially that there were no tea/coffee facilities in the room (so one is forced to pay for a cup of tea). Internet is chargeable too (these days it should be a standard part of the room package). The all day dining restaurant felt dark and uninviting. Not formal, not casual just terribly impersonal.
Overall - great business hotel for 1-2 nights for those whose companies are willing to foot the bill.

Four Seasons is for sure a high-end hotel. The common areas are luxurious; the restaurants have superb food; the staff is very kind and helpful.
Rooms are very good, but less charming than the rest, specially if you consider the price, really very high.

I had always read that Four Seasons mattresses were the most comfortable in the world - and after this stay, I can vouche for that. Once I snuggled in - it was very difficult to tear myself out of it. The hotel is what I expected a Four Seasons to be, but the only downer was that it is better for men than it is for women.

Women may not swim at this hotel and the lovely gym is for men only. With that siad, they do have a tiny exercise room with two treadmills in it on one of the upper, upper floors and they are building a special "womens gym" as well. No word on the swimming pool for women. It is just not part of this culture.

They have a buffet that runs all the time, and the food is spectacular --- and so is the pricetag. Breakfast will run you about 50-60 Rials. I was going to order a burger via room service, but it was 50 Rials, plus a 20% service charge. I just could not spend $36.00 USD on a burger - so I went to the lunch buffet.

I should have stuck with the burger.

The lunch buffet and a coke ended up costing 230 Rials. Ouch! However, it is KSA, and everyone who lives here is really wealthy - and guess they figure if you can stay in a Four Seasons, then this should not bother you. I was just here for a few days as a consultant and this was the hotel where to company put us up so....... just want anyone who reads this to know.

Western women can wander the hotel in just an Abaya and no hijab (head covering). The Abaya is a MUST, not elective. Certain neighborhoods require head covering. The mall (attached to the Four Seasons so you do not have to go outside) has three floors, and the top floor is women only. So, once you get to the third floor, all of the Arabic women shed the headcoverings and zip open the Abayas. The high fashion is blinding and the women are truely beautiful! Anyway, after a few days, I grew to like my Abaya. It was comfy and I could go the mall in pajamas if I wanted to. Anyway, back to the hotel - you will want to have an Abaya as SOON as you get off the plane, so pack it in your carry-on and put it on as you get off the plane. Have a head scarf handy. Women cannot drive in KSA - so either have a male escort or use cabs.

When you go down to eat or to the lobby of the hotel - have the Abaya on and the head scarf handy. When you go in the restaurant (Elements - buffet or the Grill - menu) they will direct you to the "family" section. That is where women and families may sit.

Everyone was very nice and helpful. They are very high quality and working within the constraints of the culture. Lovely place.
