As a large group we booked several quad rooms (actually 3 beds and a fold-out sofa bed) at the Hilton towers in Makkah. The rooms were fine and of a decent size, some with bathroom and a separate additional toilet, others just bathroom; all with a kitchenette and in reasonable condition. Word of warning: Beware the 6SAR per item snacks and minifridge items:we were charged for several unnecessarily and did not have the patience or time to argue with the duty manager (long queue to see him) as the receptionist could not deal with it!
The location is pretty good-about 5minutes' walk through crowds and the smell of broadly (fried chicken) - I stayed at Dar al tawhid last year which was much closer and easier to access. The problem is the elevators: 3 which was used by both staff and residents and get very queues especially around salat times.
THE ABSOLUTE WORSE THING ABOUT THIS HOTEL IS THE CUSTOMER SERVICE. SIMPLY AWFUL. Nobody seems interested in providing A SERVICE but quite happy to take a tip. The maitre de at the restaurant went through the same motion every morning a breakfast when he could not understand the concept of different people from te group, staying in different rooms coming for breakfast as various times.
As Asians from London, we were treated poorly by the Saudis in general with a general disdain towards us, assuming that we were from pakistan. This treatment extended to the hotel where we PAID for a service! Additionally, what really upset me was when my baby niece was crying when she got perfume in her eye, the lobby "security" would not allow us access to the room key operated bathroom (we had just checked out and awaiting transport) and dismissed us! Then, when our coach arrived the bellboys made no effort, even when asked, to help load our bags. They simply had left the cases near the entrance to the hotel after they had brought them down from our rooms.
This hotel does not deserve to carry the Hilton name. If it wasn't for the holy mosques nobody would set foot in Saudi Arabia.
