The road up from the Dead Sea to Karak is beautiful and creates the kind of calm needed for driving and parking in the town. While we had some interesting experiences like having to reverse 400 metres down the main street and navigate around taxis queueing for a rank it was all done with good humour and courtesy from the locals. We parked right outside the castle thanks to a restaurant owner who "reserved" some spaces and obviously got us as lunch customers as a fair result. The castle is extensive, well preserved and with great views. Don't pass by Karak without calling in.
