I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights during March 2012. As I was in Amman for business reasons it provided a good base to allow me to get around town easily enough as its location on a main road allowed me to get taxis at any time I needed one.
The hotel is only about 3 or 4 years old and so is modern and clean with polite staff, although their grasp of English is somewhat limited. In the entrance foyer there is a selection of comfortable chairs to rest on, the Reception Desk, and a small cafe area serving a large selection of quite good food and drink at reasonable prices. The menu items can all be ordered via room service if you prefer.
My room wasn't particularly large but it did manage to squeeze in a double bed and a desk but that only left a couple of feet spare room to move around. There was a double wardrobe with a good sized safe in it. There is a small shower room and pedestal basin. A flat screen TV is provided but only had 2 English language channels available. No tea/coffee making facilities are provided. An iron and ironing board can be requested but the board I received had a very old and torn cover on it which was a shame as it wasn't in keeping with the standard of the rest of the hotel. A small fridge is provided with a few snacks and drinks but these are not free.
As a base for a few nights in Amman the Retaj is perfectly adequate and you could find far worse for a similar price. It is only a few minutes walk from the Four Seasons and the Sheraton Hotels which allows you to dine at those and have alcoholic drinks if you prefer.
