First off, I should start by mentioning that my husband and I have both been to Israel a handful of times individually and have visited all the generic tourist attractions several times. One of the greatest gems of Israel is the wine! Who knew? My husband and I are wine lovers and frequent Napa Valley quite often. When visiting Israel, we decided we'd like to see another side of Israel so we searched for wine tours and even thought about renting a car and going on our own. Boy would that have been a mistake to go on our own! We were lucky to have found Barak and Alon through our hotel concierge and had quite the experience.
Not only did we learn about the wines, the history behind the winemaking in Israel, and taste some great wines, but we also had the opportunity to meet the winemakers! The best part about the tour was that Barak speaks perfect English! (He was born in the states and came back for college after making Aliya). Barak is like an encyclopedia of information! He was able to answer all of our questions regarding the wines and wine making. Also, he was very flexible with our schedule and accommodated us all day. He came prepared with a plan, schedule, and a wealth of information.
We started off our tour with a visit to the oldest winepress that dates back about 3,000 years! Then we went off to the following wineries: Agur, Zafririm, and Tzora. Along the way, Barak stopped at a beautiful viewpoint overlooking all of the Jerusalem from a distance. We also stopped for lunch at a pretty cool restaurant called Magda, which we would have never found on our own! It was nestled in the hills between homes; very unique and delicious!
All in all, we had a very informative and positive experience with Barak! We told him then and also hope for it now to go up to the Golan and Galilee wineries the next time we make it back to the holy land :)!
Thank you Barak!!!
