We enjoy museums. We enjoy history, culture, art and design. I was really looking forward to visiting the Museum of the Jewish People/Diaspora Museum. I was a little disappointed. It is situated on the campus of Tel Aviv University, which is an interesting corner of the city to explore. The museum itself has a very tired atmosphere, like being in a house that someone decorated thirty years ago and never updated. The exhibits felt worn. There were films with ancient headphones which didn't work. There were no markings for the audioguides. In fairness, it's really a question of money. They may not have the endowment, they may not have the benefactors. In Israel, there are many cultural sites vying for a part of the arts and culture budget, so it's understandable that some places may be neglected. But this museum has a great story to tell and still has many fascinating exhibits and teaches us a lot about Jewish life in all of its forms - its similarities and its differences - in communities all over the world.
