“tourist class hotel, under $100”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2010

Located near the Sheraton Hotel in Tel Aviv, it is still within walking distance of Jaffa and other local sites. The walk along the esplanade was much more pleasant than walking even one block inland, due to the cooling breeze. The beach is sort of across the street. The hotel itself is the basic tourist class hotel, with a commensurate price, and therefore much more reasonable than the other international hotels nearby.

The room is comfortable enough for two and the bathroom accommodates two people at the same time. The shower provided a good stream of hot water to clean off the sweat from the humidity ! The tile on the walls and floor were a bit moldy. Although we didn’t drink the water from the tap, we did use it for brushing our teeth with no ill effects.
We had a room with a queen size bed, desk and a couple of chairs; the furniture is made of laminate, but didn’t look too abused. A couple of the walls had very bizarre cracks and the carpet really needs a good vacuuming with the furniture moved around first. I wouldn’t say that the room was filthy, just needs a good cleaning.
There are an adequate number of electrical outlets; wireless internet access is free, but it is only available in the lobby. The small TV was adequate.

The only real complaint was the air conditioner; we had to leave it on all night and day, and yet it didn’t seem to de-humidify the air. We did a little bit of washing and it took a couple of days to dry.

There is no mini-refrigerator in the room; since we were carrying something that needed refrigeration, the staff was kind enough to put it into their bar refrigerator for us.
Breakfast was more than adequate, with hardboiled eggs, cheeses, a variety of vegetables, toast, cereal and coffee and tea. Mostly, it was that the food looked and tasted fresh.

If you are looking for a tourist class hotel at a reasonable price, and are not too particular about cleanliness, then the Olympia should be fine.

PS after we returned to Tel Aviv from our week long tour of Israel, we stayed another night at the Olympia. We were upgraded to a sea view room on the 1st floor, with internet access in the room. The room was in better condition than the first one we had. This room did have a small refrigerator. Clearly, an upgrade from the first time we stayed !

btw, you can take the train to the central station and take the #10 bus; it's not far from the stop.

We stayed at the Olympia for 4 nights, really good location, opposite the lovely beach and just round the corner all the shops and cafes you can imagine. The rooms are basic, very low small beds, very clean, slightly better than a hostal, the bathroom was fine, clean towels plenty of hot water. The breakfast was ok, boiled eggs, salads, toast and jam, coffee and tea. We found the hotel quite lifeless no atmosphere, the staff were ok at best, we asked about the buses, no body knew the bus routes, they spoke good english. Tel Aviv is surprisingly great, we had a wonderful time, There are so many little districts to find, a very safe place to be, we walked around late at night and no trouble, definately go back a perfect holiday destination.

It is a little run down but clean. Free internet in the lobby, which is nice. but the rooms themselves are dated and not overly comfortable. Not uncomfortable, just not comfortable. Breakfast was good, and the location is great, a very short walk from the beach and boardwalk.

It isn't particularly convienient to either airport, which is what I was hoping for when I stayed there.

hotel is 3 mins walk to the public beach, the sea is across the road, 40 mins walk to Jaffa (old city), 20 mins walk to Port area (restaurants zone), 3-5 mins walk to major rent-a-car offices (Avis, Hertz, Sixt, Eldan). Hotel itself stays just on the road, meaning that it is rather noisy at night.
breakfast is a usual israeli breakfast (no meet) - no fruits. But it is fine for 2-3 times.
rooms are rather small and run down (especially bathroom). No frige and no tea / coffe facilities in the room
Overall the hotel is ok for a short stay.

I stayed here for one night and it was a typical budget hotel. If all you are looking for is a decently priced clean room with a bed and a bathroom in a good location, Olympia is a good place to stay. The staff are okay and they will store your bag for you in a locked room if you need to leave it there post check-out time. It is steps away from the beach but is much more affordable than most of the other hotels in the vicinity.
