“Teach the Managers public relations skills”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

The hotel is in a perfect location in Tel Aviv. Access to the beach is easy and the atmosphere at the beach side of the hotel is great. The breakfast is fantastic. However the rooms have old furniture, stained carpet and stained arm rests of the couch. Personnel at reception not friendly and each one says different things. We requested a late check out and agreed to pay half daily room rate as asked by the receptionist, few days later the Manager says that they can only advise availability of the room after 12:00pm the day of departure and the amount would be more than what was agreed on. There are no set rules and it was "take it or leave it". We had no choice but to accept. They did not honour what was originally agreed upon. We requested help with the luggage, but no one came and we had to take our suitcases down ourselves. The consierge had not been advised of our request. You can accidentially lock yourself out of the bathroom and to open the door you have to call room service. Change the locks of the bathroom doors. We had torn and dirty towels in the bathroom. The beach towels are disgusting. Check your invoice carefully, we had many mini bar items charged when we did not consume any. Watch it.

The Crowne Plaza Tel Aviv – Ha Yarkon is located on a privileged place in the Tel Aviv beachfront promenade. It is steps away from the main shopping district and a short drive from the museums and other attractions of this Israeli metropolis. There is everything to be liked in the new executive rooms. They are simply outstanding. Everything is brand new. The beds are very comfortable, the bathroom is second to none. It has the best fixtures (Grohe faucets, Villeroy & Boch toilets, self contained showers, line for hanging linens, bathrobes, LED TV, generous working desk, mini bar, etc.) Most rooms look at the Mediterranean and the ancient City of Jaffa. The breakfast buffet is magnificent. The executive lounge offers almost a full dinner and courtesy alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages in a sophisticated setting. Internet is included in the rate. The lobby needs some minor updating to match the excellent rooms. The view from the dining room is also outstanding. There is a charge for using the gym which is the only courtesy amenity it lacks. However, the best part of any stay is the rooms and these rooms are among the best we have stayed at in Israel.

Room Tip: Book an executive room

A typical Crowne Plaza. Very nice comfortable room. The big attraction for us was being on the beach, watching all the activity from our hotel room balcony. The view of the sea was gorgeous.
We took a walk along the very busy beach area and found a very cozy restaurant overlooking the beach and sea that served excellent food.We watched the sunset while enjoying dinner. The hotel and restaurant provided a memorable last evening to a very memorable week in Israel.

Summarizing a very long story: I booked a stay at this hotel about 2-3 months in advance, for my wife and I. A few days before the check-in date, I received a reminder/confirmation from Crowne Plaza which stated I was all set and no action was required from me.
Upon arriving at the hotel, tired after traveling all day long, we were told that they had transferred our reservation to the other Crowne Plaza, downtown. I did not accept it, as we were on vacation and specifically wanted to stay ocean front. The manager came and could not explain the mess. Then came the Guest Relations manager, a very arrogant and cold person who blamed "the system".
I told him "the system" belonged to Crowne Plaza, so it was their responsibility anyway. He claimed no longer having rooms available, although we saw several people checking in while we waited. He said he would try to find an alternative and vanished.
During this period, the only friendly person was the bellboy, who was appalled with the situation and showed some solidarity to us.
After over two hours siting in the lobby and no concrete action from the staff, I got on hold of Crowne's Customer Service in the US. They confirmed my reservation was indeed for that hotel and not downtown and that there was nothing wrong with it or with the system. They said they would call the hotel and resolve.
A few minutes later, the hotel manager said he received the call from the US and we would be transferred to the Herods hotel, next door, what took almost another hour. Our evening was ruined at that point. As a courtesy, he offered a dinner at the Crowne the next night and put our names on the guest list.
We went to the Harods, which was in bad shape but at least we got a room.
The next night when we arrived at the Crowne for the dinner, our name was not on the guest list, and no one knew about it. The manager was no longer on duty. Embarrassed, we almost left but finally they allowed us in. Later on we learned that the bellboy was the one who saved us: when the people from the restaurant went to the lobby to try to find out if we were indeed entitled to the dinner, he interceded in our favor. The bellboy was more customer oriented than the hotel manager and the guest relations manager...
Talking informally to another employee after dinner, we found out why they wanted to transfer us to the downtown hotel: they saw the name of my company on my reservation, assumed I was there for business, and as they were overbooked, they decided to move us. They not only made the decision without asking us, but never admitted their mistake, blaming "the system" and did not take any action to remediate the situation until pressured by the US customer services.
The problems did not finish there: two days later, when we checked out, they brought us the wrong car!

Room Tip: Make sure to confirm and double confirm before getting there and do not accept their bad practices.

Great hotel in a perfect location on the main beachfront of Tel Aviv. It has direct access to the beach with the always excellent La La Land bar outside. Sit in the attractive hotel bar and watch the sun go (quickly!) down, or for the full experience do this from the beach iself, barefoot with drink in hand. La Chaim!
Reception is small but friendly, there is a concierge on duty most of the time and many staff in the attached spa and pool area.
The restaurant is also nice with a good choice of food for breakfast, all overlooking the beach and promenade.
The hotel has 17 floors but it doesnt feel like a big hotel. Rooms are spacious and clean and many have sea views. The balconies are nice but a bit too shallow if you ask me, there is barely enough depth for a chair!
The very nice redeveloped old Jaffa Train station (known just as 'The Station' or Hatachana is a 25 minute walk South down the promenade. Here you can find very nice craft shops, bars and restaurants open untl late.
a 15-20 minute walk in the opposite direction North up the promenade takes you past the Hilton to the newly developed Port area, full of bars and restaurants (some in 'hangar' buildings), mostly overlooking the sea, on a novel undulating boarded decking area. This area must also be experienced!
The city center itself is a short walk inland from the hotel.
If you have a longer stay then a trip to Jerusalem (60 min drive) or the Dead Sea (slightly further) is also a must.
When visiting Tel Aviv you can stay in the city center, but for location and the number of bars and restaurants (and the beach and warm Mediterranean of course!) around, you can't beat this Crowne Plaza on Hayarkon Street. You can also earn and use your Priority Club points here as it is part of the Intercontinental Hotels group.

we stayed in crowne plaza 3 nights begining of august 2012, the hotel is ok, room was quite big, but a bit old. Breakfast is definetly the best thing in this hotel, huge breakfast with various type of bread, bagels, wafles, salad, cheese...and a beautiful view of the sea in the breakfast area. the swimming pool is handy for kid but I prefer the beach. There is also a kid room...we went there with our 4 years old child to see if we could leave him there for an afternoon; well first of all there is nobody to take care of the children there so we could not leave our child but anyway the place was so dirty and ugly than we would never have left our son there.

Dear Ms. Rachelbis,

Thank you so much for your review of our hotel. I am pleased you enjoyed your stay with us, and I am particularly appreciative about your comments on the breakfast.
Some of our rooms definitely can look purposedly old fashioned to keep with the vintage tradition of some floors, in accordance with our standard category. We recommend visiting other guest room categories, like the De Luxe and Club rooms, which constitutes the majority of our rooms’ inventory.
The Mini Club was giving some of our guest’s issues and I'm grateful you brought this to our attention. I really appreciate your comments; I hope we get the opportunity to show you some of our improvements on your next trip to Crowne Plaza Tel Aviv!

Sincerely,
