The Brown TLV is a GREAT boutique hotel. I actually stayed there during their soft opening in October and got an amazing rate. TLV is not an inexpensive city, especially hotels, so I was quite happy to put up with a bit of hammering and dust because it was such a deal. They upgraded me a double room instead of a single, for no reason, except that they had it available.
I do not understand any bad reviews if you looked at their website beforehand. If you want an ultra-luxury full service four seasons like hotel, with every amenity imaginable, this is not it. If you want a funky cool, almost B&B like place to stay, at a reasonable price--this is it! The place reminds me a lot of the Ace in NYC, a bit hipster and young.
I absolutely loved my Israeli breakfast every morning at the little family cafe up the street. I set my alarm clock just so I could make it to breakfast. So much nicer than eating in a hotel restaurant with a bunch of tourists like me. Plus the food was amazing!
Hotel location is also great, walkable to pretty much everything. I think paying a lot for a beach hotel does not make sense, because everything is so close. Plus, I leave at the beach in Los Angeles, so no biggie for me.
The hallways and door slamming are a bit noisy at times, but you are in the middle of TLV, I do not expect it to be totally quiet. People complaining about noise while staying in big cities are irrational--go to the countryside if that is what you want. The staff was certainly still working out the kinks in a number of ways, for example, the internet was down for a day.
The only downside, is that the rooms are quite small, but this is TLV, where pretty much everything is quite small so I expected that....
I had an amazing time in TLV and would go back in a second and would certainly stay the Brown.
