the sementery is in good condision. It is recomended to visit ther with a guaid, how can explain every thing, and tell you the thru story behinde every stone. it is sad to visit a sementery but "how dosnt know his past his future is in the mist"
As somebody said,, all the "streets" of Tel Aviv can be found here, and other famous residents, too.
But the most moving part are the graves of all the unknown soldiers who died in local battles in the War of Indpendence. Young boys and girls who went into the army, literally, right off of the ship. There was no system of dog tags and IDs then, everything moved way to fast. Far too many such graves. :(
you never get a free yard for yourself there - as the list was closed long time ago.
if you ever go to travel there- insist to have a guide with a knoledge of at least 100 stories of the inhabiters and their family's.
if you got one - take a video cam. with you.
one can have his 1st degree in history just of this small cemetary !
Best to take the guided tour - and get the one that spells out all the juicy stuff of early tel aviv days: the romance, the drama, the artists' cafe's and the stories of Alexander Penn
The cemetery on Trumpeldor Street contains many of the founding father and mothers of the city. It is small but filled with stories. Admittedly I'm prejudiced because I do have a few relatives there.
