“Very pleasent stay, fantastic location, but confirm the reservation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2012

My girlfriend and I flew to Israel in the beginning of August 2012 and stayed the first 3 days in Tel-Aviv.

If you want to stay in Tel Aviv I will definitely recommend you to stay in the long line by the beach. It’s a long promenade where all the hotels are located (Sheraton, Dan Panorama, King David and so many others).

Savoy Sea Side Tel-Aviv is right in the middle of that long promenade in front of Geula Beach. The rooms are ok, not tiny not large, though very clean, modern decorated and refurnished and with air-conditioner.

From here, you can go by walk to other places in Tel-Aviv that worth visiting, for instance, Carmel Market (about 10 min. walking) or the Independence Hall, where the independence of the State of Israel was officially announced (it is a around 25 min. walking).

The breakfast is served in the lobby, which might sounds strange in the beginning. The lobby is white-colour decorated and extremely neat, so one quickly gets used to it. The breakfast food is Israeli based with no pork or ham because of the “kosher rules” (according to the Old Testament pork is an "impure animal" and therefore Jewish people are not permitted to eat it). The breakfast works on a self-service basis and offers small croissants, toasts, scrambled eggs, vegetables and fruit salads, orange juice, milk, self-served coffee directly from the machine and several types of cheese. It is not a full continental breakfast, but is enough for our purposes.

The hotel provides two excellent services to its guests.

First, the hotel provides you with a free-charge bike (3-hours maximum) which allows you to bike in the promenade and, in particular, to go to the lovely city of Old Jaffa (it takes only 15 minutes) and is an extremely pleasant ride, especially if you do it in the end of the day, when the temperature is a (bit) lower!

Second, the hotel provides free water, orange juice, coffee and fresh fruit 24-hours a day. This means that when you are back from the beach or from a walk or guided-tour in the city, light food and drinks are immediately available.

The three negative remarks I make on Savoy service are:

1. You must call before your arrival to confirm the reservation. I called the day-before and was told that they had no rooms available and I would be transferred to a "sister hotel". I promptly refused this offer and they were forced to give me a room in the Savoy.

2. The lack of information given by the staff. The receptionists welcome on your arrival, but are totally unhelpful. I asked for advice and information on restaurants, places to visit and transportation and they have no clue on any of them! So, we had to check ourselves for places of interest and good restaurants (by the away, try the pitorquesque and trendy restaurants in Old Jaffa, like Puah or Flea Market Restaurant; if you are looking for a more sophisticated ones, go to "Herbert Samuel").

3. It seems that the air-conditioner fails to work at night during the sleeping-time. Sometimes we wake up with the room very hot, indicanting the air-conditioner 26º. In the morning, we asked the managment to fix the air-conditioner, but I don't think they fixed it properly as it happens the same next night.

Finally, just an historical note to say that in this hotel, in 1975, a group of Arab terrorists took over the control of Savoy, taking all guests and staff as hostages. During this action, 3 Israeli soldiers, the hotel doorman and 7 guests have been killed. Outside the hotel is a plaque paying tribute to those who passed away during this attack.

Overall, and despite the three negative comments, this a hotel I recommend to stay in Tel-Aviv.

my friend and i booked two double beds for 222 and then when we arrived to the hotel they claimed we owed an extra 35 for a second person which was not stated on our confirmation. then when i spoke to other people staying in the hotel they claimed they were not charged the extra fee. Hotels.com tried to contact them and they kept making excuses for why they couldn't look up the reservation. pretty cheap move for $35. would NEVER recommend this place. staff is slimy!

also very humid feeling in the room bc the air conditioner barely worked.

If you have to stay near the beach, this is the absolutely best place. the rooms are excellent (though small). Well furnished, the staff does EVERYTHING it can to make you happy, the breakfasts are tremendous . . . they know who you are and excel at customer service. What a tremendous place to stay and at a good price. if you need a haircut, go to ERIK hair designer, ibn Gvirol street 183, Tel Aviv, 03-5469474. He is also excellent. I usually don't write rave reviews; this hotel (and hair salon) exceeded my expectations in every way.

Room Tip: ask for an ocean view room

Great, querky hotel, staff very helpful. Room very comfortable with almost too effiecent aircon. Food very good for breakfast. Quite centrlly located even thiough it so close to the beach. You can hire bikes FOC, so a good way of looking around. WIFI perfect, chairs in the rooms a little uncomfortable and, well, weird.
Great place in a great city though.

This hotel exceeded my expectations. It is very affordable and a refreshingly trendy hotel steps from the beach. The outside is as inviting as the rooms. My room was a deluxe with Jacuzzi. It was super clean and had everything you need from a fridge to flat screen TV, comfy bed and cute little soaps. It reminded me of a boutique hotel in NYC called "Night". The place looks far more expensive than it is from the solid doors to the modern art in the rooms. The room was nothing short of sexy. The tub had jets, a raindrop showerhead and a handheld shower head. I had two small balconies and a modest limited view of the sea. The bed was comfy and large and the AC was adjustable and always kept the room at the desired temperature. The room itself even in the deluxe category was not all that large but for a single person it was more than adequate. There was a desk, two chairs and a mini kitchen. Almog at the front desk was exceptional. It is very hard to find highly motivated, customer oriented staff in this country and she is a welcome exception. Her friendly welcoming attitude was a plus. The British lady that served breakfast was also very sweet although I can't remember her name. The complimentary breakfast is served in the lobby. It is adequate but not the extravagant variety you may get at some Israeli hotels (like Dan Panorama). I really enjoyed the snacks and free coffee/juice throughout the day. The room is less than a minute from the beach. It is also a short walk to the Carmel Market which is a must see. The area is generally safe although it is in a smaller less circulated street.
The only critique would be the lack of a ramp at the entrance to roll luggage or for wheelchairs but the security staff did offer to help with the luggage.
There is neither a pool nor a gym on property. But seriously, why do you need a pool when the beach is so close? There is also a free mini gym right on the beach (weight machines that use gravity) and plenty of beach to run on for cardio.

Bottom line: this place is ultimate bang for your buck. Solid in all respects. You will not be let down.

Room Tip: If you want luxury and a view pay a big extra and get the jacuzzi room with a beach view.

I stayed at the Savoy off and on for two weeks, using it as my base for a business trip to Israel.

The hotel itself is very nice, the rooms are refurbished, modern, clean and comfortable. Located less than a block from the beach, it is also walking distance from shopping, good restaurants and nightlife. It has a boutique-hotel feel, but except for the fact that there's no restaurant on-site, the services are commensurate with a four-star hotel.

And that's the best reason to stay here. The hotel staff was incredibly accomodating of my strange schedule and requests, right down to the Chinese delivery I was craving while nursing a bad cold. Victoria in particular was unbelievably helpful. Taxis, laundry, help with restaurant reservations, oddball questions about this and that, all were arranged with a smile and great efficiency.

I travel to Israel often for work and this was my first stay at the Savoy, but not the last. Interestingly, the hotel has a history, it was the site of a terrorist attack in 1975 in which the guests were held hostage and freed by the IDF. A plaque on the outside wall tells the story.

Room Tip: It's worth paying for a standard room. The single-standard room is very small, so unless you hav...

This hotel is awesome, we loved everything about it. The rooms, location, lobby, breakfast, free wifi and coffee and snacks throughout the day were all great. The place is immaculate and the service was top notch. The ONLY downside was that there wasn't a pool, proximity to the ocean is amazing. While not on the beach the walk to the beach is shorter than if you had to make your way through a large beach hotel. Don't hesitate, stay here!
