4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2014

An amazing view of the Old city day or night, comfortable accommodations, spacious, with quick access to the Old City and central Jerusalem. We could go anywhere easily from here, and come back to a good shower, and a good night's sleep. The kitchenette was handy and from here we got our rental car. This is so central, I highly recommend it. Good place for 3, even 4 people.

Wow, what a beautiful place to stay! From the moment we arrived our host Yossi made us feel welcome. The cottage was lovely, spacious, clean and had a stunning view of the old city walls and tower of david, which is just a 5-10 minute walk to jaffa gate. I'm often up quite early so watching the sun rise over mount zion each morning was a wonderful way to start each day, especially on the little gated patio outside the front door, where i got to sit and relax in the morning sun and watch the marathon go by down in the valley.
The big double bed was ever so comfy, with plenty of blankets for warmth when it got chilly at night. The stove style fire in thebliving room heated the place lovely in the chilly evenings and air conditioning to cool the place in the heat of the afternoon. Bathroom was clean and fresh with a regular supply of clean towels. Kitchen equipt with all you need to cook your own meals, a microwave, hot plate, mini oven/grill, fridge freezer all in working order, and plenty of plates, pans and cuttlery.local supermarket is just a ten minute walk north (along king david street to the crossroads) is a supermarket with plenty to choose from be it ready meals or home cooked stir fried/roast etc. Also just ten minutes walk to plenty of bars, restaurants, cafes and even a McDonald's! The neighbourhood is quiet, safe and so pretty.lots of sandstone cottages, surrounded in flowers, palm trees and olive trees. Our hosts yossi and vardi live in the house that sits above this cottage, entrance to theirs is in the street just behind and they are always available and willing to help. One evening my little boy was un-nerved and a bit shaken after we'd attracted the attention of an arab lad who tried to follow us home.we went straight up to yossis and him and vardi were brilliant! They took us in and were as concerned and protective as our own parents would be. To cheer my son up they took us straight out for the most delicious pizza and a night tour of jerusalem. A must ifnyou visit this city, it was incredible to see it all lit up at night. Despite being unnerved by the incident, i am glad we had this time with them both as they are such wonderful and hospitable people, yossi is fantastic with kids, and I had a lovely time chatting with Vardi along the way. I can honestly say it felt like we were with family that evening as they really looked out for us and made sure we were ok before we headed back to our cottage.
The rental cottages may not be some 5star hilton, but they are clean, comfy, homely, have a lovely atmosphere, are in a beautiful area of jerusalem, much like an extension of the old city, surrounded by little cobbled streets, parks & gardens, beautiful views and in walking distance of most of the cities sites and attractions, shops, cashpoints, busses & light rail...and if you'd like to stay somewhere that offers a more homely experience of how it feels to really be a part of day to day living in Jerusalem, I wouldn't hesitate to book one of avissar's rental homes as they are just beaitful and you couldn't ask for a more stunning part of jerusalem.Yossi and Vardi are wonderful people who will welcome you and help you with any concerns, enquiries or details while on your stay.Their knowlege and love of Jerusalem shines through in their hosting, and helped us understand a little more about why this city is a truelly unique and special place to be. Thanks to them both my little boy and I had the trip of a lifetime and plan to return r5to avissar again soon!♥

Staying with a 8-year old son in Yossi"s house in a beautiful artist neibourhood Yemin Moshe was a greate pleasure. We spent 7 spring days in Jerusalem in comfort, warm atmosphere and we"ve got a lot of help and support from our host.
Thank you, Yossi!
We will come again and stay in your clean and comfortable house in the most attractive neibourhood of Jerusalem.

Stayed with Yossi for 4 nights whilst touring Jerusalem. Location couldn't have been better--perfectly situated within easy walking distance of the Jaffa gate to Old City and the rates were unbelievable for how close we were. Rooms are about what you would expect, and the shower takes a minute to warm up, but if you're looking for a great deal at a killer location (with parking for a rental car too), you can't beat this place.

Yossi and Varda Avissar are, for me, the perfect hosts. They don't meddle but are always there to do essential hosting tasks and solve any problems as they arise. Need advice about transportation? Just ask. Want to know where to get the best coffee, or cash machine, or special taxi to the airport? They provide all the concierge services you'd want but in a space more intimate, spacious and better provided than almost all the hotel rooms in this pricey city --- and more informatively than if you just rent an apartment on your own.

I self-cater and tend to longer stays and even the small studio has all I need for simple meal prep. New water boiler, micro and hot plate.

Of the location others have waxed ecstatic. But I need to say that for it's price Avissar house offers very high value. In any group of travelers there are some that want the Ritz Carlton at backpacker prices. And there are some who prefer North American standards while negating the fundamental fact that this is the Middle East. This is an old house (one of the first in a Jewish settlement built outside the walls of the Old City) that has been remarkably well renovated and adapted into guest suites.

But for me, and for friends that I have brought here or suggested they stay here, it provides a very affordable and very comfortable way of being in J'lem with the feeling of *living* here in a real (and gorgeous) neighborhood.

It's my home away from home. And yes, problems can arise, (thought these are few) but if they do, within a day, Yossi is busy fixing them. I've also noticed that he's stepped up the cleaning to be every couple of days, and has brightened up and re supplied the units as best he can.

Might not be everyone's cup of tea (see above) but for a great number of us, it's just heavenly!

You can't beat the location, view or service you get at the Avissar House. Possibly the best place to stay in Jerusalem. Comfortable and properly priced. You can wake up and look at the old city walls...
