i stayed here in the summer and i was very impressed. i initally wanted to stay in the dorm room but it was a little to grim so i asked if they had anything else. i was given a very small room with a tiny bathroom/shower. to be fair if i was going to lanquish in my hotel room for hours on end it wouldn't be my first choice but it was clean, pleasant and not too nosy. You stay here as its right in the guts of the old city and offers a cheap option that i've not found before or after.
i arrived in the city at around 6am and they were really kind and let me check in there and then and offered me breakfast and a shower as no one was using the room. the woman on reception lived in England for years and therefore is fluent and was always helpful.
breakfast itself was eggs, hummous, bread, cheese, figs, coffee, juice etc. all good.
great roof terrace which is great at prayer time!

Dec 12, 2008 | Trip type: Friends getaway

We stayed in the hotel with my wife and several other friends. The hotel is opening to one of the main streets in the Old Town of Jerusalem, although all streets are narrow in the Old Town.

We arrived to the hotel late but the staff was very kind with us - not only on that day but throughout the whole stay helping our out with dining tips and organising trips. Even one frien did not have booking, and the house was full, they found solution to accomodate him.

The Hotel as a whole has very clean outlook and is very well managed. The rooms are somewhat small, but still hot water is there 24/7 and let's not forget that in the old town there is not much of space. I should also mention the tremendously great view from the terrace and the quite good Humus for the breakfast, which is general small hotel breakfast.

Price of room is non negotiable and you can book all trips through the hotel as well, however you must know the prices of trips in advance and be prepared for some tough negotiations - but that is half of the fun.

We enjoyed our stay and the friendly staff and great location offseted us for the relatively small room. We would go there again if we have to stay in Jerusalem.

The rooms are small but simple and clean. The hotel staff were very helpful protective, kind, gentle and friendly. The Hashimi Hotel is the only hotel in the "heart" of the Old City of Jerusalem. It has modern interior features, marble floors, stairs and railings. The hotel boasts a beautiful roof top terrace with magnificent views of the old city and historical sites. The location is excellent, only a few minutes walk from Via Dolorosa, Church of the Holy Sepulchre, etc. I will surely recommend it to my friends.

I booked my room through a hotel website. To be absolutely safe I also contacted the Hashimi directly to get a confirmation. They confirmed my reservation so everything looked good. Even so, when I arrived they had some trouble finding my reservation for a single room and had to give me a 6 bed room (3 bunkbeds). It had a private toilet/shower and I had it to myself all the time so it was ok.

The hotel has an excellent location in the Muslim Quarter in the Old City of Jerusalem, just inside the Damascus gate. The room was very simple, more like a cheap hostel than a hotel but it was ok for a few nights. The beds filled most of the room so there was not much space. No chairs. The bathroom was very small. A bit old but ok. Only cold water in the sink. The worst thing about it was that there was a lot of small flies coming from the shower drain. I had to flush loads of them off the floor in the shower every morning. The shower was ok but water spilled all over the floor. I had to keep the bathroom window open or the room would become very damp. This apparantly attracted mosquitoes and I woke up with a couple of new bites every morning. Not too bad though. No aircon but an electric fan. No need for either in october.

Cleaning was ok. Not perfect but totally adequate. The bed was comfortable but small, and it was a bit annoying that it was a bunkbed. This meant that I couldn't sit up in the bed and there were no chairs in the room. The hotel has a wonderful roofterrace though, where you can sit and enjoy a wonderful view over the old city.

Breakfast was very nice. Stricktly middle eastern stuff so if that is not your thing you would be better off eating somewhere else. Breakfast was not included so the choice is yours.

The staff was absolutely wonderful. Always very friendly and helpful. The reception area was very nice with internet facilities.

The Hashimi might seem a bit overpriced for what you get but this is the Old City in Jerusalem so everything is expensive. The only exception are some of the christian guesthouses that seem to offer exceptional value for money. I tried getting a room at several of these about 3 months before my holiday but they were all full. I would recommend contacting these first as many of them have been getting excellent reviews and are very cheap. If they are full the Hashimi is an ok alternative in the lower pricerange. If you want something cheaper or more comfortable you should probably stay outside the old city.

One last thing. The Hashimi have two strict houserules: No alcohol in the hotel and people of opposite sex may not sleep in the same room if they are not married.

We stayed there twice and both times were great, my wife and I had a great time and will definitely do it again. The price is reasonable and its location is perfect and very close to the holy sites. The hotel staff has been extremely helpful and very Hospitable.
