“Bring Your Water Shoes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2013

This is a fascinating part of the "City of David" - you go into the water tunnel that was built to divert the water from outside the city to inside so as to avoid having invaders take the water supply. Very cool and great thing to do with kids. My husband and I went barefoot, but I would highly recommend wearing water shoes (like Tevas, etc) and shorts or pants you can roll up above your knees (and will dry quickly).

“A must-see in Jerusalem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2013

We were truly blown away by the visit to the underground tunnels, built by King Hezekiah. They saved the city from annihilation by the Assyrians and are a marvel of engineering. The area is till under excavation, so the route you took last year may be different to that you take this year!

Be warned though that there are a lot of sometimes steep steps inside down to the bottom, and it's a steep walk back up the hill afterwards

“Hezekiah's Tunnel”

Definitely debunks the notion that the ancients lacked sophisticated engineering skills! And King Hezekiah's Broad Wall in the Jerusalem Old City is one of the most ancient vestiges of Israel's biblical past.

“great fun”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2013

The wet tunnel is approx knee/thigh height depending on your height. Need waterproof shoes and a torch to make the most of it. In the heat clothes dry quickly as walk around Jerusalem.

“Definitely a MUST in Jerusalem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2013

Hezekiah's Tunnel is just amazing! The engineering feat is quite remarkable and I could not stop thinking about it the whole way. I am so pleased they have opened this up to the public. Make sure you wear water shoes/sandals and bring a head torch. You could be on your own and it is dark! It is totally safe though and a lot of fun - an amazing experience for even the slightly adventurous. Shorts are best too but you will need to roll them up! The water is cool, clean and refreshing to walk through. Choose a quiet time if you can. Try to avoid following or being followed by a large tour group as it gets noisy down there! We walked back up the 'secret tunnel' - a dry tunnel that has just been opened. It used to be an old sewer but is clean and dry and pleasant to walk through.A fun way to get back! Don't miss the DVD in the theatre at the entrance. It was excellent - a great 3D experience to complete our time there.
