“You Have No Idea”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2014 via mobile

You have no idea what is in store when your friend says, "we will eat dinner at Spoons tonight."
I have traveled to Jerusalem many times and dined in many restaurants here and all around the globe. I come from foody San Francisco. The total experience of Spoons surpasses them all. 5 stars to our gracious, indefatigable host, Hila. 5 stars to the gorgeous ambiance. And there aren't enough stars to rate each carefully prepared delicious course in this meal. Every bite was divine. I hope I will return to Spoons again and again.

Dear Singers
thank you firstly, for visiting Jerusalem in this terribly difficult time. You saw, how thank g-d the country is strong, and together we get on with living. You didn't run away, you stayed, and for this we thank you and admire you.

It was a pleasure meeting you both, and hosting your group. I've sent you the recipes you asked for. Enjoy a wonderful summer, and do allow us to welcome you again.

Many thanks from all of us in the SPOONS team for taking time to write this review.
Hila

“Great find in Jerusalem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2014

We dined with my parents at the home of Hila who was a sweet and gracious host. It was nice to experience Israeli cooking an a home versus a typical restaurant environment, the house was warm and charming. All the food was between good and great. The highlights for us were the onion tarts to start with as well as the chicken liver with grapes. The eggplant was to die for and the rack of lamb with lentils was spot on. It was a nice touch having the birthday cake for dad and running into friends at the next table by chance half way around the world. The experience was not cheap but if you can afford it it's worth the $$.

Thank you for your review. Spoons is not simply a place to eat, but as you found, a special experience where we surprise you with meeting close friends half way around the world. It's a good thing I had no idea what distinguished foodies you and your folks are before I cooked or I'd have been even more intimidated.
It was a special evening for us too, in celebration of your father's birthday.
Have a beautiful summer,
thank you from all the Spoons team

“An amazing evening”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2014

I wish I lived in Jerusalem so I could eat here often. This is the most wonderful, charming, yummy place I have been in a long time. Our hostess was so gracious and the food she served was so interesting and lovely. If you are lucky, you will have the opportunity to have a great meal here. Run do not walk if you can and enjoy!

“Outstanding Evening”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2014

It is almost 1 yr ago that I had the pleasure of dining at Spoon's. We were 13 for Shabbat dinner, between the ages of 7 and 65. Unforgettable is the best way to describe the experience. Hila is a most talented and gracious chef and hostess. Her staff are friendly and attentive. They went out of their way to make everyone feel comfortable. The view from the rooftop overlooking the illuminated walls of the Old City is spectacular. The interior is beautiful and inviting. The food was outstanding. I have yet to taste Masbacha quite like that. The whole experience is like no other. If budget and logistics allow, do yourself a favour and dine with Hila.

“the best of both worlds”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2014

Our meal at spoons was one of the most memorable that i have ever experienced.

The food was creative and extravagant. From an elegantly simple roast cauliflower to decadent mallard duck breast ending with a dessert plate that included a passionfruit tart that i cannot get out of my mind.
The food was served in a symphony-like progression, beginning with an aperitif and including a delightful palate cleansing basil sorbet. The effect was that the conversation and dinner flowed together.
The remaining ingredient was the unique environment beginning with the rooftop view of the old city at sunset and continuing in the spa-like dining room of /Hila's historic home. This ambiance (including the blissful quiet and Hila's historical background talk) took the food and conversation and enhanced it exponentially. (I happened to have had interesting and fun dinner companions, but i can't give Hila credit for that!, )

What a way to experience Jerusalem!
