Owner description: The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, also called the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre, or the Church of the Resurrection by Eastern Christians, is a church within the Christian Quarter of the walled Old City of Jerusalem. It is a few steps away from the Muristan. The site is venerated as Golgotha (the Hill of Calvary), where Jesus was crucified, and is said also to contain the place where Jesus was buried (the Sepulchre). A trend among visitors to the spot (standing outside the Church) is to applaud loudly during the ringing of bells. This is to recognize the unique beauty of the Church and its unique history.

“A must stop for Christians.....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2014

Christ's tomb is a very moving experience. Not because of the lights and glamor as there are none, but for the history. It is a very somber experience. No pictures or signs to explain what you are seeing, but that makes the mood more somber which is a good thing. Expect a long wait but it is worth seeing.

“Must see for the religious”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2013

It's one of the most holy places in the world for the Christian, and it runs like that. It has no signs or explanations within the structure, and it makes the navigation in the church impossible, if you want to enjoy the tour you must prepare yourself in advance.

“Fascinating”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2013

The Holy Sepulchre is a very strange, uncommon and fascinating church. It's the most interesting building I found in Jerusalem. Not only because of the architecture but even more for the weird and gloomy atmosphere which prevails. Also interesting to see all those priests of the eastern and western churches dressed in their traditional costumes and feel almost physically the competition between the representatives of all those churches. Note that the 'poorer' ethiopian church had to move on the rear side of the 2nd floor having not been able to pay the necessary taxes at the time of Ottoman rule....

“Go if you have the Faith”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2013

It's a Holy place that all Christians expect to visit.
You need to be prepare to wait 90min (at least) and expect nothing else than be close to your faith.
The Tomb it self is tiny and sober. No pictures when you're in.
I've to admit that I've been a bit disappointed

“Could be here or there is argument that the Garden tomb is the correct location- see both tombs and decide for yourselves”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2013 via mobile

There is disagreements where Christ was laid in the tomb- some argue Christ was buried and rose from the grave here or others say it wasnt here but rather in the Garden tomb instead. Personally, I believe the Garden tomb is the correct location but see both locations and decide for yourselves.. Remember its about faith and belief so no person can make u believe its here or it's not here.Check out both locations and make your own decision as to which location is the correct one.
