“First ever 5 star review.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013 via mobile

Absolutely mind blowing experience.

Food was innovative, brilliantly contrived and combined, patiently crafted and beautifully presented. Outrageously decadent and delicious desserts if you can manage it. Finish off with a single malt and a Cohiba if you really want to live large. Expansive complimentary wine list. Bring a few shekeks; dinner is not cheap but absolutely great value for the price.

Ambience is amazing. Wine cellar and private rooms in a 200 yr. old cistern. Fabulous tables crafted from massive slabs of varnished lumber.

Service is outstanding. Yonatan literally oozed pride in the establishment. Knew the menu perfectly, made constant fabulous recommendations. Showed off like a truIly loving and dedicated host. Increibly attentive and accommodating.

Absolutely the best dining experience I have ever had in Jeeusalem. Will be a regular patron.

“Give It More Stars if You Love Cheese”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013

Basher the wine and cheese bar is a small duplex built into an old old (very old) space on Agripas street in Jerusalem. Its space in the Mahne Yehuda Market is different from this restaurant. Here you have low and stone ceilings, high tables, lots of cheeses and wines to choose from. The food is cheese based and if you cannot enjoy cheese you will find it difficult to find anything to eat. (Okay so I should have known it would be this way! I still expected something more varied.) The lower level smells from the water that continues to seep through it - so although I enjoyed the 'tour' of that space, I would not want to eat downstairs.

It is a lively place for people to meet for a drink and only snacks and the staff was very nice (mu visit was clearly different from other reviewers' experiences.)

“A cheese shop takes on a full menu”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

One of the best cheese shops in Jerusalem opens up a great restaurant on Agrippa Street. Great bar, wonderful subterrenean room (a water tunnel) and a great menu in which everything features cheese. A very special place!

“Good cheese but a big mess”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2013

We've been to this place three times. We went first just after it opened a year or so ago. Although six people were "working" and there were only three other customers, no one bothered to welcome us or bring us a menu. When we finally were brought to a table no one ever came back, so we left. We went for a friends birthday and sat in the cellar area. This is an interesting part of the place that they renovated. It has an antique well and wine cellar. For drinks and fun it can be nice, but is a little clausterphobic (like being on a submarine). The third time we went and sat in the main part of the restaurant. Let's just say "cramped" is an understatement. All the tables are high tables and the chairs are stools, so this is not exactly comfortable. The service is a complete disaster, in such a small place it is still almost impossible for find a wait staff who ever wanted to help the customers. The food is decent and very cheesy (as advertised). The fondus is a good portion and nice to split between four people, as is the cheese platter. The stuffed gnoochi is wonderful. However the prices are a turn off. The managers seem to wear jeans and t-shirts as if this is "cool" but it just goes along with the unprofessional wait staff. By contrast the cooks are true professionals and experts, some of whom have trained and worked in France. So the place is a mixed bag. It has good strong beers on tap, and some of the entrees are really worth going back. But the seating is terrible, it is noisy, crowded and the service needs to be sent back to school.
