“Great lodging in a majestic building with the best view over Jerusalem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2009

All staff was friendly, helpfull and attentive throughout our stay, barring some occasional language issues...strong IT support and doctor on site (one of our friends did become ill and was very happy about this). Pilgrim ameneties abound.
Our room was spacious with a high ceiling, simple but clean. Some other friends had chosen more luxury, but we were there for the down-town area..so no need for tv. Cleanliness was somewhat extreme, my wife noticed even the shower curtain was laundered....Plus, we had a view over the New Gate (only 50 m) and all of the down-town area....later we were invited up on the roof by the manager for a scenic expericence. As as the hotel is situated on the highest hill on the perimeter of ''old'Jerusalem this provided a spectactular view with professional commentary. A real treat for Bible scolars and pilgrims.
We really enjoyed the peace and tranquility after hectic excursions in down-town, as well as the sumptuous buffet and the terrace cafe. The grounds are securely fenced off from the main road. In addtion we found Jeruzalem safe eve when the access roads to the temple square were blocked off....soccer hooligans are scarier....
The lack of work-out space was a bother, but we compensated by an early morning jog around the city walls....33 min can you beat that?

Beautiful Stone Building in fantastic Location adjacent to the new gates of the old City. Check in very efficient and luggage delivered to our rooms promptly. Although our bedroom was basic it was most comfortable, very clean, good matress, exceptionally high ceiling gave a nice spacious feeling to our bedroom. I viewed some other bedrooms which have been refurbished to a very high standard. They also have junior & senior suites which are very impressive. Breakfast is a buffet served in the ground floor diningroom from 6.30 am. They have a wide range of quality food on offer. Lunch is also available and snacks/ drinks in the cafe at rear of reception, nice to sit on the veranda at night with friends sharing a good bottle of wine! There is also an upmarket restaurant called La Rotisserie accessable from the front of the building at a lower level which serves excellent food. Highly Recommended! Overall this is Top Notch accommodation.

The gated hotel compound is a true gem - entirely cut stone inside and out. Yes the rooms are basic and nicer accomodations are available in the western part of the Jerusalem but the proximity to the Old City (simply walk across the street) and the very safe short walk to the more trendy western commercial areas make the place a great experience (how much time will you really be spending in the room while in Jerusalem?!). One beautiful late afternoon on the veranda at the coffee shop was so relaxing after a long day. Also the included buffet breakfast was varied enough for all with small private tables available for everyone.

The hotel was large, but welcoming.
Someone was always present and willing to help with any needs or questions.
The room and bathroom were small and very basic. Clean and acceptable. The hotel itself is architecturally a well kept relic of the Holy Land still alive and active outside it's confines.
Nothing was luxuious...however, luxury that was not the goal.
There is adequate food to nourish--good tasting and ample.
There is a sense of community that permeates the hotel.
There is a basin of holy water and a beautifully kept chapel--available 24 hours.
In only a few minutes you are able to walk to the markets, along the steps Jesus took to t he crucifixion. There are great, cheap restaurants, vendors and a welcoming city within walking
distance.
This is definately a place for the pilgrim traveler.
I am returning in a few months myself.

The Notre Dame is the perfect place to stay in Jerusalem. It is a beautiful property near the Old City and other attractions. You can walk everywhere! The rooms are very simple and there is nothing glam about this hotel, but it is clean and quiet. Normally, I like fancier hotels, but since I was not looking to spend a lot of time in the hotel, I was happy to find an inexpensive place in a great location. Also, since you are in a religious Institute it would feel weird for it to be too opulant.

This is a house for pilgrims to the Holy Land, not for tourists. This becomes very obvious after a short stay. The spirit in the house is very friendly -- the staff, the other guests, and especially the spiritual direction though a handful of priests. The rooms are clean, but rather small, and are not thought for persons who want to spend a lot of time in the bedroom. But if you are in Jerusalem on a spiritual pilgrimage, it is rather doubtful that you want a T.V. or to spend a lot of time in one place. As another person noted, the beds are quite firm, although I hardly noticed this at all after the first day.

  • Liked — The spiritual atmosphere
  • Disliked — I really have no complaints at all...
