“Delightful hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2014

So happy to have found this lovely hotel. Fantastic location, friendly and helpful staff, and the hotel itself is charming. If you're looking for a glossy international business hotel with a huge breakfast and enormous bedrooms this might not be for you, but if you're on holiday and want a friendly and welcoming experience with free wi-fi, nice bathroom, comfortable room in a beautiful setting, this is the place for you. We were sad to leave!

I stayed with my family (wife and twin teenage girls) for 6 days at the Gloria Hotel this year during the Christmas holidays, and we all loved it. The rooms have been recently refurbished and are quite nice; the staff was very helpful; and the location couldn't be better. Before we arrived, the location had been both a draw and a concern, since the Gloria is located in the Old City just inside the Jaffa Gate, and a number of Israeli friends had expressed skepticism about staying in the Old City, which they described as deserted at night. So let me just say that my entire family thought the location was fabulous. Contrary to what you might read, there is a lot of activity in the evening near the Jaffa Gate, and and at least in the early evening there are still people browsing in the central souk and walking around the Armenian and Jewish Quarters. A number of restaurants are located on the same street as the Gloria , and more nearby in the Armenian Quarter. Plus, just outside the Jaffa Gate, less than a minute away, is the Mamilla Mall, which is hopping with activity in the evening (as well as a great place for coffee and pastries in the morning for breakfast). So we thought the location was absolutely perfect. The only weak link is the breakfast at the Gloria, which is fairly mediocre. But, overall, I would recommend the Gloria extremely highly, and we will certainly stay there again next time I'm in Jerusalem.

Visit Jerusalem twice in 2013. Always stay in Gloria Hotel .Great experience. Jaffa gate 1 minute walk, everything is so close. Great service, friendly stuff. Receptionist can help you rent a car which can go to Palestine ( has insurance for both sides). Helps a lot if you want to visit Bethlehem, Jericho and etc. Will go back next year!

Room Tip: call hotel directly and make arrangements before arrival. Most of the time hotel fully booked.

We stayed here with a group as part of a Holy Land pilgrimage. We found the hotel to be very comfortable and friendly. The downstairs lobby/bar area was really interesting. Our room on the 1st floor was lovely, but what we saw of the 2nd and 3rd floor rooms looked much less attractive. The restsurant was not the best and the food was basic - not bad but quite plain. To be fair, the hotel was in the process of having renovations and moving the kitchen/dining room, so I would stay there again but make sure to get a room on the 1st floor!

We stayed here in a very cold, snowy December. The location just inside the Jaffa Gate is excellent for exploring the Old City, and there are wonderful views over the walls to the modern city, especially in the breakfast room. Reception staff were helpful and welcoming. The rooms are not luxurious but are modern, extremely clean and comfortable and (crucially for this particular trip) warm! The communal areas are also comfortable, with (downstairs anyway) nice decor, and are good to spend time in. Breakfast is very tasty, with a great range of options and really nice attention to detail (fresh, seasonal fruit rather than canned; fresh mint to put in your tea; hot food kept warm at the buffet, not left to congeal).

It is on the pricey side - more than I would expect to pay for something similar elsewhere, but there is not a great deal of choice in the Old City and the superior comfort makes it worth the difference from its lower-priced neighbour the New Imperial.

Room Tip: Some rooms have great views.

Feel like you are in the Middle East when you stay at the Gloria. I found the location just inside the Jaffa Gate to be perfect. You can easily walk to many attractions and wander the Old City just beyond your footsteps. The restaurant is lovely. You are near the public transportation. The staff was friendly and the rooms are clean.
