“Not to be missed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2010

There were 4 of us and we ended up taking a taxi from near the old city. It was about 43 sheckels. A bus would have been 26 sheckes, but we could not figure out where to find a direct bus. We took the bus 17 back, but the walk would have been easy too. We arrived around noon and we there until 4 pm and still did not see everything we would have liked. We took the free tours of the synagogues and the dead sea scrolls. Both were very informative and recommend that you schedule yourself around the tours. We missed some tours as they start in the morning. Amazing place - not to be missed. I am not sure about photographs. At the dead sea scrolls, they were very clear that you could not take photographs, but other places there were no signs and when I showed my camera to the guards, they indicated, no

“Modern and new presentation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2010

The Israel Museum has recently re-opened following a 3 year renovation and renewal project. The archaeology and Judaica wing have been completely re-designed. Many of the favorite items are presented again along with new finds, some having been discovered only a few weeks ago.

The exhibition halls are spacious and easy to move from one to the other. A special type of glass has been used in many display cases so that it is near invisible - you don't realize you are looking through glass.

It will still take a while till the renewal is complete - some captions have yet to be installed, they should be up within a week.

The museum is a Jerusalem must see - especially the Shrine of the Book and the model of Second Temple period Jerusalem.

“Exceptional Historical Tour”

Spent four incredible hours at the Israel Museum on a journey through history filled with plentiful artifacts! An absolutely marvelous experience for the entire family that was well exhibited and curated. It is definitely a must see attraction.

“Check what exhibitions are available first.....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2010

as there is a lot of building work going on. We arrived at 4.30pm on a day where the guide book advised that it would be open until 9pm but were told by the information desk that it was an error and that they closed at 5.00pm. We were not charged but told that the only thing worth seeing and available to see was the Book of Scrolls. It was a great experience but I was concerned that although we got in for free, that the museum would still charge 36 shekels to enter a museum that was not fully functioning.

“Go here for the model of Jerusalem”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2010

Most of the museum is closed for renovations, with a scheduled opening July, 2010. In the meantime, you can see the outdoor model of Jerusalem, the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit, and the Ruth Young Wing. Don't bother with the Ruth Young Wing, The first century model of Jerusalem is the highlight. Be sure to get the audio tour (free after paying for general admission) when you walk into the lobby so you can hear about the different parts of the model. The Shrine of the Book, which houses the Dead Sea Scrolls, is also worthy of your attention.
