“King Herod Exhibit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

First class museum by anyone's standards. We went to see the new King Herod exchibit. Wonderful. Also, Dead Sea Scrolls are here and another unsung gem.....Outside on the grounds near the Dead Sea scrolls is a very large replica of ancient Jerusalem. Fantastic. Get a tour guide to explain it all.

“Spacious outdoor art and large scale model of Jerusalem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

Sculpture art garden is wonderfully spacious, with large installations amongst what seems to be an old olive grove in different tiers. Good weather helps, take a hat and sunglasses. The large outdoor model of Jerusalem at the time of King Herod 2000 years ago is fantastic, if you can get on the tours I would do so. You are given a walkman free at the door in your language which gives more info on the exhibits (we had to go back and ask for this as it wasn't automatically handed out). 50 shekels or less with student or elderly concessions, thats under £10 or $15 at today's exchange rates, so it's worth making a day of it.

The Israeli Museum has its own website in different languages and you can see what the current special exhibitions are.

The Dead Sea Scrolls are housed in a separate building on site.

It's a full day out and another to do the internal exhibits inside the main museum. The cafe is a bit expensive but is a good somewhere to stop and put feet up and have a drink.

Very interesting. Good place to see and get a feel of Jews life. They have three great tours; Archaeology usually at 11:00, Jews Heritage at 12:30, and Model of Old City and the Scrolls at 3:00. All free and in English. Web site: http://www.english.imjnet.org.il/page_1634

The archaeology section unfolds the history of Israel in a clear and marvelous display of artifacts and textual descriptions. The experience is equal to a year of college!
