First time I visited the Church of Sepulchre in May 2011, when I brought my family to Jerusalem for a several hours long visit. Although not a Christian myself, I was brought up in a Christian culture, and seeing the place where the culmination of the Christ's story supposedly happened was deeply moving.
My second visit happened in October 2012. Between these two visits I have read a lot about Jerusalem and it's landmarks, uncludng the Church of Sepulchre. So I new about all the doubts raised by modern sciense regarding authenticity of the place. Of course my perception changed; but not at all in terms of significance of this Church, or admiration I felt when I saw it again! Whatever the "true" story was, and wherever it "really" took place - the Church of Sepulchre has been for centuries both spiritual and material center of the Christian world. Even if it was not the very exact place where the Cross stood and where Christ was buried - centuries of adoration and homage from millions of believers, and all the wars fought for it and blood shed in these wars, make it a Holy Place anyway! The history of this Church and the place it occupies in minds and souls of so many people have made it one of the few main landmarks of the human civilization.
Now about the "crowds" and "disrespectful behavior". Any visitor with enough common sense would expect to find a lot of people at the place which attracts that much attention from the world. All kinds of people are visiting, from pious pilgrims to just curious public. Everyone behaves the way s/he is used to. This only made my visits more impressive and rewarding! Both inside the Church and on the square in front of it's entrance - it is so interesting to just watch people of all races, from all countries and social backgrounds, each one feeling and reacting in his/her own unique way.
This is one of those places where everyone achieves what s/he is looking for... That's what my visits here taught me.
