All the gates are great to view. This one is no exception. It is very interesting to walk through these old city gates.

“Beautiful gagte”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2013

The Jaffa Gate is prettiest gate.
It's located near the David Tower in the Old City.
The area is also nice for people who like to go shopping or eating in the new shopping street near the Jaffa Gate.

“Portal between the Old and New”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2013

Background: The walls around the Old City of Jerusalem were built by Suleiman the Magnificent in 1542. Most of the gates within these walls were designed by Siran, an Ottoman-Turkish architect. The Arabic name 'Bab al-Khalil' (Gate of the Friend) for Jaffa Gate is taken from the Arabic inscription at the entrance: "There is no god but Allah, and Abraham is his friend." In 1898, a large area was opened in the wall beside the gate in order to allow the German Kaiser Wilhelm II to remain on his horse when he entered the Old City on a state visit.

This is another busy gate as it is the main access point to the Christian Quarter from Jaffa Road. There is a Tourist Information Office just inside. To get the sense of the local flavour of the Old City, try walking down along David Street through the Shuk rather than turning right into the Armenian Patriarchate Road. Jaffa Gate is also busy for another reason, a touristy one: as the portal connecting the Old City Jerusalem to the modern European-style Mamilla Shopping Mall. The new area, seemingly out of place, is like stepping into a time machine.

Verdict: Quite busy and touristy, but well worth the visit. Recommended. Grade A-minus.

“take a moment to feel the history”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2013

Its just a simple gate, but the melange of faces and types walking through it give you a sense of Jerusalem as an ancient crossroad. Tip: walk in about 30 meters on your right, you'll see the two graves of the architects of the gate and the surrounding walls.

“One of many entrances to the Old City of Jerusalem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

This is the gate that brings you into the Christian Quarter of the Old City. At one point you could drive in but now there is a barrier (like a toll gate) there that is sometimes used to restrict vehicle traffic. In its own right, it is an interesting entrance and just inside is David's Tower, which is also worth visiting.
