Owner description: Located in the Old City’s Muslim Quarter, this is the world’s third holiest shrine to Muslims (after the Kaaba in Mecca and the Tomb of the Propher in Medina), which signifies the spot where the Prophet Muhammad is believed to have ascended into Heaven.

“You must see from afar”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2014

I once had the fortune of visiting inside the Dome of the Rock. It was very interesting, especially for someone not of the Muslim faith. Now it seems impossible for non-Muslims to see the site. So snap a few photos from afar and don't waste your time

“The Shrine located on the Temple Mount”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2013

The domed central plan structure was patterned after the Christian Church of the Holy Sepulchre and is I believe. the first work of Islamic architecture. The Dome of the Rock is located at the visual centre of a platform known as the Temple Mount
Unfortunately this is the same review for most of the sights we went to in Jerusalem It’s so busy! So many tourists are overwhelming but you need to go and experience this. We were on an organised tour and to be honest felt rushed around a lot and not able to relax and soak up the amazing atmosphere. Not really what we expected from a religious point of view but an experience not to be missed. I think we may go back and allow 2/3 days for a more relaxed view of the City and its sights.

“Beautiful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013

What a beautiful site to see. Having learned more about the Muslim religion the last few years I did not want to miss this. You will queue in line for a bit and go through security to enter the site. It is only open for a few hours each day for visiting and you are not allowed to enter the mosque unless you are muslim. But it is worth a visit to walk around the square. A must see I think. When it closes to the public you are told to leave...right now. Try to get in during the morning open hours to have plenty of time to walk around. Morning is open 2 1/2 or 3 hours. The afternoon is only open open for 1 hour I believe.

“A stunningly beautiful Muslim holy site in Jerusalem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013 via mobile

The Dome of the Rock is one of the most iconic sights in Jerusalem. Dating back to the seventh century, it was reclad with the characteristic Ottoman tiles in the sixteenth century under the reign of Suleiman the Magnificent and then completely retiled in the 1960s, using tiles imported from Kutahya. The dome itself was regilded in 1993. Non-Muslims cannot enter the building and women are expected to wear head coverings (a scarf is fine) and modest dress when approaching the building, as a sign of respect. The Haram (or Temple Mount, i.e., the raised platform area where the Dome of the Rock is located) is also closed to non-Muslims from Friday afternoon until Sunday morning. Christian and Jewish people (and any other religion) have a separate approach. This aspect of the visit may be a little daunting, but it is well worth it to see one of the most stunningly beautiful religious buildings in the world. Early morning is a good time to visit.
