My two children (7 and 9) and I spent five days at the Christ Church Guest House in the Old City of Jerusalem in July. It was the perfect place from which to explore Jerusalem since it is right inside Jaffa Gate where food, taxis, tourist attractions and the always entertaining market are at your doorstep. We found the hotel charming, quirky, and pleasant. We had the family room which has 1 bunk bed, 3 single beds and a trundle. (In a month in Israel, my husband and I never had a true double bed. Most are singles pushed together.) It was huge, with a (dirty) stone floor, a tiny bathroom with a weak shower, two windows that opened onto the courtyard (some breeze and some noise), a high vaulted ceiling with no ceiling fan and a floor fan for cooling. In July in Israel, the fan was only adequate and we were all hot in the room. But we didn't spend much time there. The Christ Church has a lovely courtyard, a beautiful oasis of lush flowers and shady trees, where cold water and tea or instant coffee are always available. The breakfast buffet, included with room, is fine by North American standards, but far less generous and tasty than other hotels we stayed at in Israel and served very early. Staff were friendly and helpful enough and the other travellers, of all ages and interests, were far friendlier and chattier than other places we stayed. The kids and I loved the place but a fussier traveller might not like the rooms. We would definitely stay there again.
