Hotel is within walking distance of the old city and Ben Yehuda street. Great breakfast buffet including made to order omelets, a number of salads and cafe au lait. Attentive staff.

We stayed at the Leonardo Plaza with a tour group. Our room was nice with a balcony. We enjoyed watching the sun set over the city each afternoon. The buffet food was okay. Service was okay.

15 minute walk from Jaffa Gate of Old City; 10 minutes from Ben Yahoda Street makes this a great location for Jerusalem.

The hotel itself is shoe-box shaped oriented east-west which gives rooms a north or sourth view. There are 22 floors of rooms. The top two floors are special. All others are identical. Each regular floor has 24 rooms; 20 are identical (except thart 2 near each end have balconies). Each floor has two larger rooms on one end of the building and two suites on the other. Higher floors provide a better view. Sunrise can only be seen facing south.

The standard rooms had ample storeage space and comfortable beds but we found them (and the bathrooms) to be somewhat small.

There is a large, unfriendly lobby, half or which is take up by a lounge. Seating space is minimal. Try the business center for extra seating.

The dining room and public rooms are one floor down from the lobby. The noise from parties funnels right into the lobby.

The "Israeli" breakfast was ok but certainly not special.

The hotel has a nice swimming pool (closed when we were there) and borders a public park.

Based on what we saw, the Leonardo mostly caters to large groups.

The hotel charges an obscene US$25/day for the internet. They blame the cost on "their supplier". There is a cafe about 2 blocks north with free internet; and the downtown Ben Yahoda area has free wi-fi as well.

We stayed here because it was part of our tour selection; otherwise we would not recommend it nor would we stay here on our own.

To start, the reception area people seemed uninterested in taking care of people in an efficient manner. I had a few interactions with them. Check in was quick since we were in a group. When I came with a question, they made me wait and did not even acknowledge us till we excused ourselves and then they left to go answer a phone in the back. We eventually got our answer. Finally, when we had an issue with the internet they were uninterested in discussing it and told us to call the vendor.

The room was below average. There was a nice set of glass shelves which really showed the dust on them when you turned on the light. The bath floor tiles were cracked. There was no alarm clock so unless you bring your own, you are at the mercy of the hotel wake-up call (which did work for us) and need the tv on to see the time.

The TV had no news channels and there was no guide for the channels that did exist so you had to guess at what was on and when it would start. However, if you are in Jerusalem you should be walking around not parked in front of the TV.

The internet in their business center was a massive rip-off. When we read the description we understood that you paid for a half hour (about $10) and could use it over 7 days. Not so. The time all had to be used in one sitting or you were out of luck. We called the vendor (smart-net.co.il) who pointed us to #22 and #23 in the terms of service.

22. The service may be used for up to 7 days since the date of purchase. A user that acquired the service and did not use it during 7 days will be billed for the full sum of the purchased program.
23. All the usage programs are valid for a continuous period of time from the moment of activation and cannot be accumulated, except for the smarttime90 and the smarttime120 programs.

I can see how you could read the above to say that you can only use the time in one sit-down but it is a bit of a stretch. And having it as #s 22 and 23 in the terms of service seems disingenuous.

Finally, the staff must have liked my small travel razor since that disappeared on our second day there (out of 7) and asking at the front desk resulted in baffled looks. We searched the room top to bottom and unpacked everything and still no razor.

On the positive side, the beds and pillows were comfortable and did not appear dirty.

I just returned from group tour to Israel where we stayed at the Jerusalem Plaza (now called the Leonardo Plaza) for four nights. Since the new management took over with General Manager Danny Alkalay, you can see the difference in the hotel's operation.

The hotel has the best location. It is walking distance from Ben Yehuda Street, the new Mamila Mall and Jaffa Gate. The breakfast food display is amazing. Lots of variety and great taste. The group had two dinners in the hotel that were excellent as well.

The front desk service is attentive, even during busier times. Everyone in my group enjoyed the stay at the Leonardo Plaza without even one complaint.

My family has been coming to this hotel for 14 years and wouldn't even consider going to another hotel. Even though the Sheraton name was taken away, Starwood Points no longer accepted, and changes of managers, the Leonardo Plaza in Jeruslam is still the place to be. The new General Manager is seen walking around and being involved with the guests and making them feel comfortable. My family has met him and each like him very much. With many changes in the hotel, the staff is the same and their service has been been just as good, if not better. Many of the rooms have been redone and we heard that new renovations are planned, which will only make the hotel even better. And we see that in every room there are new flat screen tv's. We have family members and friends in other hotels in the area and we have heard of many complaints. They included things like not having enough food during the holiday meals, and even having unedible food. We can guarentee that in the Leonardo Plaza, there is not only a lot of food always being served, but it is very good and consistent as well.
