“Poor housekeeping but good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2012

The hotel is conveniently located approx 10 mins walk from the Garden Tomb and a few more minutes brings you to the Damascus Gate of the old city. It is one of three large hotels side by side with the front of the hotel on a quiet road. The entrance to the hotel, and its associated public areas, shop and bar, are impressive. But the room was a bit disappointing. There was a kettle and a fridge but nothing in the fridge! The bed linen was not up to standard, with the bottom sheet being too small and thin, it would not stay tucked in. The duvet looked creased and crumpled when I got there. There was a smell of drains in the bathroom, which I decided was mould on the bottom of the shower curtain. The house-keeping was very poor with glasses and cups not washed out, and beds just pulled up with no attention to detail.
The restaurant is large and at the weekend, with Shabbat it was crowded and noisy. Meals are buffet style and have an impressive variety of dishes. The staff were attentive and efficient in restocking the buffet and clearing used plates. Israeli wine and beer were available at a reasonable price. It is a generally good place to stay location wise but dont expect five star housekeeping!
Some in our group had things stolen from them in Jerusalem old town, so be aware this is a problem.

Room Tip: I was on 6th floor, no street noise and good view of the front of the hotel.

As In all Israeli Hotels The breakfast was beyond belief...I don't know how anyone can eat more than 10% of the wonderful offerings.

This Hotel, not unlike the Dan chain believes that WiFi should be a big profit center...shame on them!

The sleeping area of our room was quite attractive, but the bathroom was in need of repair. The shower handle came off in the guest's hand, and toilet flushed only sporadically.

I had stayed in this hotel when it was a Sheraton, and it seemed to me that Sheraton did a better job in terms of updating and maintenance

The lobby is attractive, and the staff seemed helpful.

The location is convenient to Ben Yehuda Street (where there are lots of people, lots of shops, restaurants, bars, and coffee places. The old city is walkable from the hotel.

The staff are all longtime and very capable and make an otherwise ordinary hotel into a delightful experience. Concierge Ronnie, the Reception staff, are so excellent. We appreciated the housekeeping attention on the 22nd floor herded by Abel, the Head of Housekeeping and a room cleaner called Nisreen. Of course the Plaza is so well situated!

Room Tip: The top 2 floors have balconies with great views on the city of Jerusalem.

The Leonardo Plaza Hotel is so ideally located close to the old City, to restaurants and to shops, as to make it the one "go to hotel" in Jerusalem. The staff there is so much a cut above the ordinary. They not only care deeply about their guests, but it shows.
Rooms are delightful with all the amenities one would like to have.
Try to stay at the Leonardo Plaza and you will be thrilled that you did!!!!!!!

The level of service was terrible.
Between the front desk not being helpful, or waiting on a line for 30 minutes to make a reservation for shabbos meals while four employees just chat as if you dont exist, is inexcusable.
This was the first time staying at this hotel and the last.

We spent 3 nights at this hotel and we were very pleasantly surprised although be prepared that the guests are predominently quite orthodox.

The rooms are well appointed with plenty of cupboard space and pleasant furnishings. The bathrooms are a little small but bright and quite well refurbished. Unfortunately our room was right next to the lifts which beep 5 times each time you call them!

The breakfast buffet was not sumptuous (no smoked salmon) but very adequate with typical Israeli salads, breads and hot dishes. We enjoyed dinner one evening at the fish/milk restaurant which had an excellent choice of dishes which were well prepared and seasoned and reasonably priced.

Service throughout the hotel is a little patchy varying from good to quite poor and at times we saw long lines at the front desk.

The hotel is fairly central and one can easily walk to the old city, Malmilla and Ben Yehuda.

Room Tip: Choose a room away from the elevators.

Leonardo Plaza Hotel is one of Jerusalem’s finest establishments, at an affordable price! This hotel goes the “extra mile” to personalize their service to the individual customer. Rooms are clean, staff is friendly, courteous, and available when needed! In-room amenities are high-quality. The breakfast buffet is amazing, with dozens of choices to satisfy even the most particular of us! Ask for a high-floor Old City view, there is nothing comparable or more spectacular than to overlook Jerusalem at dawn or at sunset! The hotel’s congenial personnel even maintain follow-up contacts (phone and email) with departed guests when necessary! We definitely will return soon!
