“Perfect hotel in excellent location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

Cannot imagine a better hotel choice in Jerusalem! Absolutely beautiful and comfortable rooms, tasteful decor, quiet with great room darkening curtains, large tub and separate shower, with gorgeous views of the old city from the rear of the hotel. Very convenient for walking to the old city, historical sites, and shopping. Central to everything. Breakfast was included in our price and it was excellent. The staff and service were excellent. Expensive but worth it. Loved it!!!

Second time staying here and almost everything is perfect - charming service, beautiful rooms, lovely pool and the overall experience of staying in such a majestic and historic hotel. However all of the above comes at a hefty price which we are happy to pay because of the unique experience and the wonderful service which is well described by other reviewers here - HOWEVER - the hotel is really letting itself down (or Dan is) by chargng for internet in the rooms. It is really quite unacceptable to charge £444 (sterling) for a room plus $110 for a third childs bed and then charge for WiFi on top - it is really a poor principle and really leaves a bit of a bad taste actually.

The King David is pretty much incomparable. It is one of the most historic hotels in the world, and you can see that history all around you when you visit. The service is not perfect, but in a sense that is what makes it so real. There is no hotel in the world that I would rather visit than the King David, and I love every minute I spend there.

Room Tip: Very much a matter of how much you are prepared to spend!

The King David is a majestic hotel, and worth a visit. But it is NOT worth $600 night + a $20 PER DAY PER DEVICE internet charge. Seriously. ALSO, a huge, wonderful buffet breakfast is included in the price of the room....BUT if you want coffee delivered to your room it costs about $18...HOWEVER, if you have breakfast delivered to the room including coffee it only costs $12. GO FIGURE...And I also felt I could never get a straight answer ... I wanted to take a bus to Bethlehem (about 15 minutes away) and the ONLY answer I could get from a concierge is that I should hire a guide or a taxi for at least $100... it turns out that bus 21 takes you to Bethlehem for only about $2 and you can catch it near the hotel. At a hotel like this, you should have confidence in the staff, which I did not.

Room Tip: the higher you go, the more expensive the rooms

Dear Shermaster,
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts following your recent stay with us; comments such as these are invaluable in our monitoring and development of standards.
Meeting you during your stay was most fascinating; I remember the conversation along these lines very well and will refer to some of the points highlighted again here for others reference.
Just like airlines and hotels all over the world, rates of all different rooms are monitored and fluctuate according to the time of year; during peak times, as you can imagine, rates reflect capacity. We'd hope that we have something that could accommodate all who decide to stay with us.
The complication with regards to the coffee and breakfast brought to your room is merely a misunderstanding or communication breakdown; Breakfast is included in the rate for all guests, so it is just the luxury of having it brought to you which is added, whereas when you order coffee, you will pay for the full service and product.
Furthermore, it is always a concern to hear if a guest feels that our team did not take care of them to the best of their abilities, and for this we are apologetic.
Our team, purposely, do not advise taking the bus to Bethlehem as there are added procedures required crossing the border, sometimes taking quite some time. We'd always prefer the peace and sanctity of our guests and their safe return back to us.
Hoping to have the pleasure of welcoming you back and should you wish, please do be in touch with me personally so I may be of any added assistance.
With regards,
Maya Morav

We had a spectacular corner room with views of the old city and the new city. Hard to beat that! The personal touch was excellent, we were escorted to our room and shown all the features by a gentleman in a suit--not the bellman. The bed was sooo comfortable! The amenities are all high-end. The lobby is sumptuous and has wi-fi. The breakfast has so many choices and all are wonderful. We were extremely impressed by the staff who were unfailingly courteous and helpful. The pool is magnificent. We loved staying here and would do it again in a heartbeat. And don't miss the video on the history of the hotel on the hotel station on the TV.

We have stayed at the King David many times. It is a beautiful and unique hotel. Recently we reserved a king deluxe room on the 5th. or 6th. floor overlooking the old city. On arrival the room we were given was much smaller and had less closet space than the room we reserved. We informed the front desk of this so we were then taken to another room on th 4th. floor and shown a room even less suitable. We refused that one and were told to remain in the first one and that we would be moved the next day to the room type we reserved as nothing else was available. We rejected this option as we had been on the road for over 3 weeks with a lot of luggage and didn't want to move again. After a standoff of 10 minutes they showed us an acceptable room, more in line with our reservation. The experience was unpleasant and unnecessary as the proper room was always available. It left us with a bad taste which was aggravated by a chat with their guest relations rep. who was unapologetic and very defensive but she gave us a challa cover for our travails.Later we realised that the king bed was not a king bed but a king headboard with twin beds--not what we reserved. It was late by then, and we were too tired for another round with guest relations. It seems bizarre however, that after paying $680/night, at the King David you must be prepared to suck things up, for there the customer is never right.

Room Tip: make sure that room category does not have more than one room type as you can be surprised with the...

Dear Ted Q,
As our dear returning guests and experts in hotelier business, your valid and professional remarks have always been an asset for the King David. In fact, during our coversation in the lobby you could see that every comment and request of yours throughout the years was documented in your personal profile and respected upon every new reservation. I truly regret that this time The "King" or the circumstances were less favorable, and due to a very high occupancy we failed to offer you the best room in the category. I would like to assure you once again, as I did during our conversation, that upon your next stay, an extra attention will be paid to your specific room preference, since now it is documented in detail.
Last but not least, you are most welcome to contact me directly any time for future coordination.

KInd Regards,

Maya Morav

I dont write long detailed reviews.....The King David is a wonderful hotel with dramatic views of the Old City. The newly refurbished rooms we had was on an upper floor was wonderful. The breakfast buffet (and I do not care for buffet's in general) was the best breakfast buffet I have ever seen. The service, overall, was adequate. It is a big hotel, hosting large groups. However, We would go nowhere else the next time we visit Jerusalem.

Room Tip: The rooms with a view of the Old City are spectacular

Dear casa360,

It gives all of us at The King David great pleasure to read that so many aspects of the hotel are so appreciated. Thank you for mentioning our beautiful Old City views which are truly spectacular, as well as our "world famous" breakfast buffet.
We hope to welcome you back again and again when we will ensure that you rate all aspects of the service as outstanding, rather than adequate.

Sincerely,
Judy Derman
