“Historic, good location, but average in many ways”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012

I expected to be "wowed" by this hotel, but wasn't. It's a bit worn at the edges. Service is good, and the rooms are fairly nice. If you go, be sure to get a room that overlooks the old city. The pool area is lovely, but there is so much to do in Jerusalem, we didn't have a chance to use it. We had a Shabat dinner here that was expensive, and beyond awful, but I've been told that is what you should expect when food is cooked way in advance. Of course, just being in Jerusalem, which is, arguably, the center of the world, makes any complaint about the hotel you stay at really minor in the whole scheme of things

Room Tip: Pay extra for a view of the old city - it's worth it.

We have visited Jerusalem several times a year, for the last 40 years, both individually and with groups, staying at every 5 star hotel in the city at one time or another. It had been a good five years we had last stayed in the King David but we were placed here with a community group and looked forward to it. We were not disappointed. Our standard room (which did not overlook the Old City) was spotlessly clean, very comfortable and spacious. The bathroom was excellent with a large walk in stone shower and thick, luxurious towels. The history of the hotel and its illustrious guests is to be found running the length of the main floor...on the floor. There, the facsimile signatures of scores of famous diplomats, royalty, movie stars and intellectuals appear on a long stip of white marble. But while the King David remains the grand dame of Jerusalem and exudes history, just as comfortable lodgings can be found at any one of the other 5 star hotels in the city such as the Inbal and David's Citadel, at a lower cost. The coffee shop prices are hideous and the service on the one occasion we tried it was less than sterling, to say the least. Still the excellent designation is deserved.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the old city if possible. The night view and the early morning are specta...

After visiting Jerusalem several times , was so excited to finally have the opportunity to stay at the famous, and beautiful King David! It is certainly impressive-from the front entrance to the lobby, to the pool..those traveling with our party loved the pool and remarked several times how wonderful it is! The lobby is nice, spacious, and a fun place to people watch-the outdoor restaurant patio likewise has a lovely view. Our standard room was fine-our disappointment was the service! Food at both dinner and breakfast was great-breakfast service was quite nice but the evening meal service and patio service was lacking. LIkewise, upon checking in, the front desk staff was not helpful and actually was "clueless" as to some particular details for our group. Interestingly, women front desk staff and lobby servers seemed much more efficient than the male staff and willing to be more helpful!

Room Tip: Only saw a standard room and it was nice.

Dear Guest from Atlanta,
Thank you for your comprehensive review. Your admiration of our pool garden and the premises is truly appreciated. We are also grateful for your constructive criticism of the service in the coffee shop and at the front desk, and would welcome any specific information. Thank you also for boosting the self-esteem of our front desk "girls", yet we would truly appreciate your concrete feedback in order to encourage the "boys", as well .
Looking forward to your next stay,
Kind Regards,
Maya Morav

Very nice hotel.
Place for those who loves history and respects the classics.
Large rooms with a view of the old city of Jerusalem. Good breakfast, a large selection of traditional dishes... but there is no meat .. information for those who can not imagine their life without meat :)
The hotel location is very good. You can get everywhere by foot.
Very professional work of the concierge. Any request has been always carried out.
This is not a cheap hotel, but the price is completely justified!

Dear Jekaterina,
We are pleased and honored to receive such a delightful feedback by a guest from the beautiful Baltic capital, thank you.

All our guests enjoy the rich Israeli breakfasts that hotels in Israel are so famed for. As you noted, our breakfasts offer a huge choice of fish, dairy products, and salads. Meat is not served at breakfast, in most top hotels in Israel, including the King David, as we follow the traditional kosher dietary requirements of separation between meat and dairy products.
We do serve a generous variety of meat dishes at our Gourmet Restaurant "La Regence", as well as at the pool restaurant and in room dining via room service; we hope you will get another opportunity to sample.
Looking forward to welcoming you back very soon when we will treat you to our special spicy entrecote.
With kind regards and many thanks,
Michel Nabet

The building is a landmark in Jerusalem and although the Lobby could probably do with a freshen-up, the staff are welcoming and efficient.
Our room was one of the refurbished ones on the 5th floor overlooking the Old City. It was stunning. The room had a large comfortable bed with Frette sheets. We had a walk in wardrobe/dressing room with masses of space to put away all our clothes. The bathroom was large and beautifully appointed. Separate shower and large bath, double sinks and lots of space for toiletries.
The terrace at the back of the restaurant has a perfect view of the Old City and to sit there with a drink at the end of the day and watch the sun set has o be one of the all time dream experiences.
The Breakfast is huge and first class. Everything you could possibly wish for is provided and the array of fruits is mouth watering.
This is a wonderful place to stay and is ideally placed for exploration of this fascinating City.

Room Tip: Choose rooms on the 4th and 5th floors that overlook the Old City.

This is my second visit to The King David Hotel, and again this place never disappoints. The staff is consistently attentive and helpful.
My room was large and immaculately clean. My view was the Old City. There was a small balcony with a table and chairs which I am afraid we did not get to use.
The location was the best. One can walk to the Old City and to my restaurants. The breakfast buffet is fabulous with fresh, delicious varieties of food.
This hotel is one of my all-time favorites. The only place to stay in Jerusalem!

Dear Ghoradam1,
Thank you so much for your kind words and warm review; loyal, returning guests are the biggest compliment a hotel can receive so we are sincerely appreciative.
Hopefully, you'll have more of an opportunity to enjoy the breathtaking, panoramic views of the old city from your balcony on your next visit, do let us know when that will be; looking forward to welcoming you back,
With regards,

My husband and I took our four oldest grandchildren to Israel and we stayed at the King David Hotel. We had an amazing time at this lovely hotel, in this magical city! The staff went above and beyond to captivate the children and they even ran to reception each day to talk with new friends behind the desk!

Our room was beautiful and each day new treats were waiting for us. The dining room staff was warm and so attentive and once again, we have so many new friends! The grounds and pool of this hotel are gorgeous and the pool so refreshing! We stayed here over the Succot holiday and Rabbi Friedman was wonderful.

I can't say enough about this beautiful, historic hotel. To me, you are not in Jerusalem unless you are staying at the King David Hotel and you are looking at the inspiring Old City from your balcony! You feel as though you are a part of history!!!

Room Tip: Choose a room with an Old City view
