“Average hotel, a disappointment overall”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

This hotel is, on the whole, a disappointment compared to my hotel experiences elsewhere in Israel. On the plus side, the rooms were clean, the view from my location was quite spectacular and the staff were relatively responsive. Internet service, which is guaranteed, was not available in my room. After I asked this to be corrected it was available only sporadically. Dining is very mediocre - an inadequate number of seats/tables were reserved for my group and at one point a server was somewhat rude to a patron who asked for coffee (he replied curtly that he was only offering soft drinks.) The buffet was always stocked with meats/seafood/deserts that was lacking in quality. The shower water volume and temperature were erratic. And on multiple occasions I waited in excess of 5 minutes for an elevator. I wouldn't stay here again.

Old hotel, not 5 stars. Very tired rooms, even the bussiness floors are very tired. Good location
obvious that the hotel is very much in need of a makeover.
Common parts need painting with marks over the walls

Best all-around hotel in Jerusalem -- price, quality, and location. The Old City is a very short light rail ride and right near the central bus station. The price is the lowest in our company's preferred list. The quality is certainly higher than many others I have tried in Jerusalem, but it's not 5-star. The staff is great, and the breakfast is among Jerusalem's best.

I stay in Crown Plazas and Holiday Inns all the time. Sometimes the HI chain is so tired the Express Hotels are better. Here is a hotel that does not deserve to be part of the CP chain. Very tired rooms, poorly appointed and need a complete makeover. Common parts need painting with marks over the walls. Bathroom with cracked bath and the water pressure poor and does not drain away. Bath robe was dirty, it had certainly been used and not replaced. Breakfast awful. Two good things about the hotel, room was quiet and good position for the trams for the city. Management has a great deal of work to do.

The Crown Plaza welcomes you with a beautiful lobby and a friendly reception desk, but when you get the rooms themselves, it becomes obvious that the hotel is very much in need of a makeover. While the rooms are relatively clean and offer a reasonable amount of space, the furniture certainly shows its age. The rug did not appear to have been vacuumed for some time. The fabric on the chairs is stained and the wooden surface of the desk is scratched and marred by rings. The light in the bathroom flickered for the first night and then just quit working. The shower knob was broken and needed repair in order to use the overhead shower head.

The phone response system was poor in that no one answered the phone or it just reverted to a busy signal after a couple of rings when we attempted to contact the manager on duty, the reception desk or the operator. Once connected, after 20 minutes of trying, the assistance was fine. Perhaps just overworked and/or requiring an improved telephone service.

As noted in a previous review, the air conditioning system took all night to reach a comfortable range.

However, most importantly, the room was clean and bright and the beds were very comfortable.
Dinner the first night was very good, although the selection of entrees was limited. The salmon was excellent. Salads and desserts were very varied and quite good.

Overall, the hotel is better than average. Just don't expect the quality you find in the Crown Plaza hotels in other locations. A through make over would greatly benefit this hotel.

We arrived here on the oct 26th and from the first night our air-conditioning was not working we called the desk and they sent up a man who finall got it to work at 2300hours. The next morning we lweft and returned to a room that was 85 degrees F. It once again took till 2300 hours to get air conditioning. The same problem occurred the next night and on the third night they did not even respond to our calls to the front desk. I fmust admit the next morning at 0530 I was awfully unhappy. and demanded to speak to the manager and was told he was not on duty after until 0700 hours, and we were scheduled to be at a mee3ting at 0645. When you get less than 3 hours of sleep in a room thatr has no ventalition and is over 85 degrees F you do get awfully upset and distraught. for the first three nights of our stay that was all the sleep I got and on the 4th night I sleeped on the small balconey. This is an ongoing problem and the response was SO WHAT. We are fully booked and .....

When you are staying in this hotel expect to be Disrespected if you do not speak hebrew and if you do you will hear an earful by not admitting to speak the language. I understand hebrew and was shocked by the way the staff spoke about foriegn travelers. The view is excellent but, when yoiu cannot sleep due to the heat it is HELL.

Room Tip: do not stay here

We stayed as part of a tour group for a week at this hotel. It is wonderfully located next to the convention centre and close to public transportation for easy access to the Old City and other Jerusalem sites. As we were part of a much larger group that bascially took over the hotel for the Feast of Tabernacles I felt that the staff did very well to accomodate us in various ways. We enjoyed breakfast and dinner buffets each day and the menu continually varied with wonderful delicious surprises each time. The rooms were comfortable and we had a wonderful view from the 17th floor overlooking the Harp bridge and areas of the city. The pool area is nice with a roof that is opened up during the day. Use of the gym is extra ($50. shekels per day I think). The housekeeping staff did a very thorough job of cleaning our rooms each day and weren't afraid to give us new towels or amenities. The only issue we had was that upon check out we were charged for use of items from the fridge that we didn't use. Reception cancelled the charge without issue. In speaking with others in our group they too were charged and it seemed that the fridge is computerized. Note: using the fridge for use of your own items seems to trigger this charge so be aware of that.
