“Machane Yehuda Street Market, jerusalem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

This is a very famous, extensive, long time in existance street market in the centre of Jerusalem.
There is even a public car park near by.
The one way system and street rail makes it somewhat difficult to drive to it.
However, very worth while the visit.
I spent 3 hours walking throuh it. lots of shops.
Some reasonable restaurants, mostly kosher. So do NOT expect certain foods for non jews.
Wine shops were very good selection and better price than in Tel Aviv.

The place does not have the up market look of the Jerusalem shopping malls, but is just as interesting, from a different shopping angle.

“Food Temptations everywhere-”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013

We spent about two hours - soaking up the atmosphere, taking photographs and noshing. There is a certain pulse here, an energy that you get swept up in and for that we enjoyed our time here.Everywhere you look, the colors of the fruits, breads, even the egg merchants display beckons you to come over and take a closer look.
Found the prices for spices more reasonable than the market in the old city.
We were looking for Purim pastry and we were not blown away by what we sampled but did find the halva from Halva Kingdom interesting. The merchants were more than happy to let you try anything you wanted.
Personally, after visiting the smaller market in Tel Aviv we were a bit disappointed as we found everything we sampled there more tasty. That being said, there were many Kodak moments and there was a great variety of nuts and dried foods.

“New and old in Mahane Yehuda market”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

Once this market was the place to buy all your fruit and vegetables, and was also dotted with shops selling the kind of household goods not longer available anywhere else. All the fruit looked fresh and appealing; everything else was kind of dusty... Today it still has all the above, but it also has boutiques selling designer clothes, cafes and restaurants, and street art performances. New and old side by side together make this one of the best answers to the ubiquitous shopping mall.
Even if you don't need to shop for fruit or vegetables, take a camera to capture the characters and the colors, try the halva, or stop in for lunch at one of the little restaurants selling food you won't find in your hotel. Not to be missed.

“Feast your eyes....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

If you are a cook, gourmet, glutton spend a happy hour or two here. I've seen many, many street markets and this is amongst the best of the best. If you plan to visit and are staying in a hotel, take some plastic boxes to save and savour some of the foods for a picnic.
