“Best spaghetti”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2013

I always walked past this restaurant and thought what was so special that people sit outside even when the weather is awful when there are no seats available inside. Well, I tried it and I am now a fan as well. You absolutely must go to this restaurant. Have patience since the wait staff have so many tables to take care of. If you have time to kill then this is the place to go. It reminds me of the cafes in Paris.

“Nostalgy..”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2013 via mobile

We came here after reading they have a great Apfelstrudel. Well, we figured out at the start they all ran out of. So, we had a soup, salad, fish balls, pasta and some desserts.
The service was very nice, fast and smiley. The music gave much atmosphere, and we will sure come back to grab an Apfelstrudel!

“Yummy food!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2013

The food is great, especially the pastries. Love the atmosphere. Not cheap, but not too expensive either. The service is often on the slow side, as the place is crowded, but if you're not in a hurry it's the place for a great meal any time of the day. Dairy (kosher), closed on Shabbas.

“Eat here !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

This is an unpretentious restaurant (originally a pastry shop, turned full service restaurant) that offers interesting and delicious meals. We dined here twice in one night. We arrived for an early-ish dinner of soup, salad and entree (all shared by two people). Each was imaginative, well made, very good tasting and served by friendly and knowledgeable staff efficiently. Of the several top tier restaurants we visited in Jerusalem, this was the best.

We came back later for desert. At 10 PM or so, the place was packed (mostly with younger people). We had to wait a while for the table and then for service (they did the best they could considering the crowd). The pastry was as excellent as was the meal earlier in the evening.

There is something particularly comfortable about this restaurant. It has a very pleasant combination of very finely prepared food and a 'heimish Eurpoean' atmosphere. If you can do without crystal and fine china, you will thoroughly enjoy this spot.

“Where the locals gather”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2013

First Impressions: If I only learned one lesson from my travel mentor, it is this: "When you come to a new place, seek the eateries that the locals frequent. Follow them and eat where (and what) they eat." There are still a few iconic cafes in Jerusalem and I understand that Café Kadosh stands as a Jerusalem institution in itself. Rightly so. And they won't let us forget so easily -- since 1967 -- it is still in business. Now, that's something to be said about longevity.

PROS: Its location is excellent, right up swanky Shlomtzion Street in downtown Jerusalem, near Safra Square, attracting your typical office worker crowd. From its approachable populist menu, one may order excellent French baked goods made on-site, tasty quiches and pastas as well as your usual espresso fix. Ambience is informal and relaxed.

CONS: What, there is a minimum £10 cover charge? It is a straightforward, basic, no-frills café so don't expect fine gourmet dining. The owners are "playing it safe" with the usual standard fare but I guess that's the best way to stay in business. Still, overall, the food is very good and reasonably priced. Service is spotty. It's the first to suffer when the restaurant becomes full, which happens on a frequent basis, especially during lunch.

Verdict: It is gratifying to know that Jerusalem's iconic coffee shop is still around, reliably supplying java to its regular customers all these years. Reserve a seat in advance. Recommended. Grade A-minus.
