“One of the best Italian restaurants in Israel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2014

This is one of the best non-meat Italian restaurant in Israel, creative, with a marvelous feel for balancing tastes while using fresh ingredients from the adjacent Maheneh Yehuda market. Absolutely delicious.

“Great Italian place near the Mahane Yehuda market”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2014

Not another standard Italian place .
The dishes are creative and combine great ingredients many of them from the market which is happening 50 M from the restaurant.
A lot of fish dishes. We had a grouper steak with Risotto which were excellent but pricey.
By 12:30 midweek it was empty but became crowded by 1:30

“A real Italian Trattoria, competing with the best in Italy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2014

Excellent Italian food is hard to come by outside Italy. Actually, it may even be a challenge in some over-toured parts of Italy itself. And still, in Jerusalem, Shai Ghini and Yona Sasson have managed to do just that. More astonishingly, their fare just gets better over time, in stark contrast to most restaurants in Israel.
The place started off as a relatively simple, albeit high quality, restaurant. Over the years, they've expanded beyond the excellent fresh pasta and pizze to a wide array of culinary delights, some originating in the Jewish Roman cuisine, some in Southern Italy and Sicily. Lately, they've become even bolder, and have started introducing novel dishes that are rarely seen anywhere (e.g. the grouper fish liver baked in filo pastry, or the Italian-Japanese fusion experiments).
The stress is on fresh product from the nearby Machne Yehuda market, and the menu is frequently updated. The space is lovely, but some may perhaps find it too small for an intimate date.
Being Israel, where people have no scruples about digging into their friends' plates, I would strongly recommend ordering different dishes and sharing among the diners.

“Tasty A+ resturant, be ready to pay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2014

we had a full dinner there: Aioli with bread and some olives, a plate of good sardines, superb Gnocchi alla Romana (made of Semolina wheat and not potatoes), good Polenta which was made of fresh corn, extremely good dessert of Gnocchi with cream and Amaretto sauce. Two glasses of wine and one sparkling water bottle. We paid 360 NIS ($102) which is not very expensive for two persons. Given other good options in the market located around the corner, it can be cheaper. We'll come again !
