“Fantastic hostel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2013

It is a great hostel right in the middle of the town - 15 Mins from the old town and quite accessible to other sights in the area.
It is also right next to the mahane Yehuda market - heart of all the action in Jerusalem - if you can call that
Rooms are quite good, a bit on the small side :), the bar is quite happening and is a must hangout place
Staff are ok - could be more friendlier - given that it is a hostel. Bar staff are outstanding , but the front desk and other staff are almost aloof - which is odd and I have never ever seen that from a hostel before :(.
Overall, quite a good place and bargain for israel

This is my second stay at this hostel. I came back, so obviously I liked my first visit. Having previously stayed in a 4 person mixed dorm, I opted for a single room for more quiet and privacy. Here are the pros and cons:

Pros: great location close to shops, restaurants and the old city. There is also a rooftop deck now which is nice for those wanting to drink and/or smoke outside, and to look at the night sky. For Jerusalem the overall value for your money is good. The website says that there is a coffee machine for breakfast. True, but they require 5 shekels for each coffee.

Cons: my room was not as clean as previously. It wasn't very dirty, but for example there were dirty tiles in the shower and the air conditioner was covered in dirt. Daily cleaning of the room seemed to be limited to the floor and the toilet, and emptying the garbage.

Scheduled events and excursions were cancelled last minute if there weren't enough people signed up (e.g. Not profitable enough).

My room faced Jaffa Street with the tram, which was noisy in the night and morning with the constant honking of the train.

My main issue though was that there was a regular front counter staff member who was outright rude and unfriendly. Without fail, as I would approach her, she would acquire a sour disposition and look at me as if to say "what the hell do you want?". I'm not picky at all with service. Pretty much every one else working at this hostel is friendly and maintains a hospitable disposition. This woman though, a dark haired Israeli, would without fail deal with me in an unwelcoming and hostile manner. This would usually occur in stark contrast to just having been smiling and laughing with her co-workers. I would expect a reply comment from the hostel to this review telling me I could take my concern to the front desk staff, but with an unfriendly devil lady like the one described I'd rather just make due.

Room Tip: If you want quiet try to get a room facing the courtyard.

Abraham Hostel is my choice, because of the staff!
Next; the price and the breakfast.
But not least; the tours they provide the visitors is recommended indeed.
It is central placed close to almost everything, but from where you stay, its possible to come to any corner of Israel and Jerusalem

Basic but clean and open rooms, wonderful service, great breakfast and activities, good location..the best thing about this hostel for me was how convenient it was to book tours through Abraham Tours, which had an office in the hostel lobby. I took a tour to Bethlehem, and one to Masada/Ein Gedi/Dead Sea with them, which were both affordable and memorable tours. Overall a great stay! Definitely would recommend this place to friends.

A very nice hostel, with an open atmosphere. They organise lots of trips, so a good place to start your Israel experience. In the evening there are also activities organised. You have plenty of opportunities to meet other people. Ages range from young to old, which gives the hostel a nice vibe.

Hostel has everything you need. Friendly desk people, free tour of the old city, very good breakfast, bar in common area, clean bathrooms and daily activities. Only complaint would be the bed was sagging in the middle so wasn't very comfy. Overall very solid place to stay.

We gave stayed in the other two Hostels in the past, with friends and with family. Fortunately they were booked and 'we were forced' to look for alternatives and came across Abraham Hostel.

The staff are pleasant, the rooms clean and the Hostel sits just off the Jerusalem light rail. And the price REALLY reasonable and competitive.

The Hostel has a young theme in comparison to the others, but this not deter us. Can recommend for youth, families and even the 50+ crowd
