“Amazing location, not matched by the dining experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013

My husband and I together with four friends ate at the restaurant, which is situated in a most interesting part of down town Jerusalem, in an area which will be up and coming very soon, with the completion of the Waldorf Astoria and the Mamila shopping Mall. The restaurant's name comes from the date the Quarter was first inhabited by Moroccans, ie.1868, today the area has been gentrified with new little squares and museum. The restaurant itself is set within a courtyard for summer dining and a large dining room for the colder months. The menu is small, fancy and frankly not very good value for money. 0ur soups were tepid. The main courses did not live up to their optimistic titles and the service, considering there was only one other couple besides our party, was slow.

“Best VFM”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

We came to 1868 for the second time last Thursday evening. The restaurant has been renovated, and the atmosphere is quite and lovely.

We ordered the salmon savice and beef tartar for first courses (both amazing, though a bit small), and two entrecotes for the main course (probably one of the best stakes I had).

The staff was very nice and attentive, and the wine was great!

In summery - not a cheap restaurant (we left at some 230NIS per person), but worth the cash.

“Beautiful food, great service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012

This must be one of the best dining experiences I have had in Israel. The staff is polite and attentive, the food is delicious and beautifully plated, the ambiance is calm, yet cosy,

The prices are higher than in many restaurants in Jerusalem, but the quality of the food more than makes up for that.

Their sommelier made great wine choices. For those who do not drink alcohol they were not as helpful unfortunately.

“Charming, small, cozy restaurant. Great food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

This is a fabulous place for a romantic lunch or dinner. The restaurant is tucked away almost out of sight from the busy street. The young staff welcomes you to what appears to be a family run operation, and they make you feel part of their family. We enjoyed each and every dish here. Excellent food without the stuffy atmosphere.

“Delicious Food ... a nice change from Falafal and Couscous.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

The food was extraordinarily good, however the service young and inexperienced.
The banging of the pots in the open kitchen unfortunately drowned out the otherwise pleasant background music......
It was worth the visit and the slightly above average prices.
I would definately recommend this restaurant.
