“ Basic hotel, good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2014

Ok hotel for the price. When I contacted them before arriving for directions they told me to get a cab from the bus station. A cab from the airport and bus station is expensive. You can easily reach this hotel by getting the frequent tram to Damascus gate - it's about a 10 minute walk from there.

This hotel was by far the best hotel I've stayed at in Jerusalem. It's close proximity to the Old City makes it a perfect place to stay for tourist like myself. That's not to mention it's close proximity to the cheap bus which takes you to the most beautiful scenic view of Jerusalem, none other that the Mountain of Olives itself :) Despite the fact that the hotel is not expensive, I was surprised to find the service amazing. The rooms are exceptionally clean and spacious. The WiFi service is super-fast, and that is a blessing considering the fact that the Middle East is not necessarily known for fast internet lol. The breakfast is great, with a wide variety of food and options (all kosher). I've never come across a more warm and welcoming staff than that of the New Victoria Hotel. All in all, the stay was exceptional.

Room Tip: Floor 2 is the best

Due to the low prices we did not expect nothing special. Clean big room, good breakfast, helpful staff. The hotel is located in an old building but is partially restored. Mattress seems new and is very comfortable to sleep. The walls are thin and it is noisy ... also we heard the noise from the street. The hostel is located in East Jerusalem in the Arab neighborhood, walking distance from Damascus gate.

As a first-time solo traveler/Israel tourist, this was the wrong hotel for me. I stayed one night and then switched hotels. If you are looking for a hotel that is low cost, clean, no frills, just a place to sleep, then this might be a good choice for you. I left before the included breakfast, so can't comment. More details:
Pros:
* Price
* Clean
* Elevator (small)
* Short walk to Herod's Gate and Damascus Gate. Reasonable walk to Jaffa Gate.
Cons:
* WIFI didn't work in room. I tried both my phone and my laptop.
* Hidden neighborhood that was confusing to navigate and didn't have many restaurant choices nearby.
* Loud street noise - cars beeping their horns. Was better late at night and early AM.
* Small, simple, worn room and bathroom - not appealing for spending time while relaxing between tourist activities.
* Nitpick...Although I'm pretty techy, I couldn't figure out the TV (onscreen menus not in English) and didn't feel like asking the front desk for help again.

A great budget hotel that is clean and family friendly. The price was reasonable and the location is very good. Away from the busy streets yet only round the corner from one of the main streets leading up to the old city 'Salah ad-Din street'. 5-10 mins walk to Herod's Gate and 15 mins to Al-Aqsa. This may seem a long walk but believe me the path through the old city to Al-Aqsa is just amazing and better than routes through some of the other gates. Most importantly though regarding this hotel is the friendly staff; they were all so welcoming and went out of their way to accommodate my family. From the reception to the kitchen staff, all so very helpful! I asked the main kitchen guy where the nearest pharmacy was and the guy actually walked us in the night to the pharmacy as he said that we may get lost. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a friendly budget hotel.

Love this hotel! Budget hotel, but room is clean. Breakfast is not bad at all. Price is very reasonable. Location, very convenient! Good 10 minutes walk to Damascus gate of the Old City, and bus depot opposite the gate. But the best asset of the hotel is the staff. I encountered 2 front desk personnel, Marietta and another guy (I feel bad I lost the card that he gave me with his name), not sure but his name might be Avi or something. Both of them, including the staff at the breakfast table are very friendly and helpful. They would take the extra mile to help you with anything you need, from where to go, how to save on tours, etc. Would definitely go back!

Budget hotel, but clean rooms. Breakfast is not great, and the tables and chairs could do with a good clean. The cleaner does a very good job and room sizes are good. Takes about 10mins to walk to the old city which was great. Good eating places nearby, especially a restaurant called "Zad" which was round the corner. We ate in there quite a bit. The hotel was booked by the group leader as the original hotel was over-booked (Hashimi hote in the Old City).I would probably look at a better hotel the next time we go.
