“Good location, average hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

Location:
Smack in the center of Jerusalem, even within walking distance to the Knesset (the parliament). But there is no convenience store or any kind of entertainment outlets around.

Hotel:
This is an old hotel in bad need of renovation. It looks old and behaves old. My wife and I stayed at the Royal Wing of the Ramada Hotel that - to add confusion - they also call the Royal Jerusalem Hotel. But when you get hotel's bill, it says "Ramada".

The room:
Old room, standard furniture with disproportionally small window. The only "modern" thing in the room is the LCD TV, the rest is decades behind. They call our room "double bed" and it is actually two beds put together with individual bed cover. I was speechless when I opened one of the desk drawers to find a hairdryer with messy cabling.

The breakfast:
Before you enter the dining room, you'll see an island full of varieties of salads and other fruit and vegetables appetizer. They are really good! True to Jewish tradition, in the morning they served no meat of any kind, only dairy-based meals. The hot meals usually consist of pasta and 2 varieties of egg. No live egg station.

Service:
Very helpful, just don't expect they to smile a lot.

Room Tip: Get room on 6-8 floor, facing the city.

The Ramada Jerusalem was once the Renaissance--so a bit lower on the same hotel family food chain. But the public areas are still Renaissance standard and have actually been recently renovated. Everything looks very nice . . . and rooms are comfortable and clean. Old problem for Renaissance was pitiful location, near nothing and no way to get there. Now, with the light rail station just a couple of blocks away, much of Jerusalem is accessible from the hotel, even without car (if a visitor were foolish enough to drive in Jerusalem). Large dining room mostly for groups, noisy but with excellent buffet breakfasts and dinners. Free hour of wi-fi in lobby daily . . . or pay in room. There is an executive floor (number 12) with free wi-fi and access to the executive lounge, which is nice, although the executive lounge is quite basic--small snacks, no alcohol. Altogether a usually well-priced hotel, a bit out of the way.

Room Tip: 12th (executive) floor has larger, nicer rooms, with free access to Wi-Fi and executive lounge. If...

The hotel contains of two parts - Royal and Ramada. I stayed at Royal and it was disastrous. Rooms were old and rather dirty. The biggest problem was the hotel's stuff - never met such arrogant and unfriendly people working in a hotel. It could also be very noisy in the mornings, when some big groups of tourist were getting up.
The only plus was the food, which was rather ok.

Warm, caring nice staff. Gorgeous newly remodeled public spaces and renovation of rooms en route. Marvelous tasty food. Fresh, clean smell. Amazing views from the windows to every direction. Central to everywhere in Jerusalem. Check out Marcel in the lobby, Sami at the front desk, and savor the atmosphere in the lobby bar at night.

Everything in room besides TV looks old, and is obvious that hotel hasn't been properly maintenanced. Bathroom looks like in 2 star hotel or at student dormitory, rust is visible. Breakfast is poor, (on shabbat there was not even scrambled eggs or hot milk!! as usual ). Lunch and dinner are acceptable, although definitely not in rank of 4-star hotel. On the other hand, fitness is nice, as well as sauna and swimming pool. But that is only positive thing about this hotel. For around 150$ in single room per night you don't get what you paid. It's just ripping off the guests.

A clean room but not a luxury hotel. A long walk from the nearest bus. Room has thermostat but you can't control it so was always warm. Housekeeping continually removed robes and towels that they provided for no reason. Hot water takes 5 minutes to warm up. Overall, eh.
