Owner description: Come rediscover Biblical Jerusalem! Located just outside the Old City walls, the City of David is in fact the historical Old City of Jerusalem, containing archeological remnants going back 4,000 years. Come see for yourself where it all began...

“Guided tours, lockers, weak gift shop”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2014

Much to my surprise, the City of David was pretty close to the Old City. I was so Jaffa Gate oriented...I hadn't been to the Zion Gate or Dung Gate, the latter was close to the City of David. It was a bit after 12pm noon, and I saw an admission price that included a guided tour. The next one wasn't until 2pm but would end by 5pm which was perfect for me. My tour review is under Hezekiah's Tunnel. For the visitors center - it was convenient to have a place to change before/after the wet tunnel and to rent a locker. I was disappointed that the gift shop didn't have a postcard with a good photo of Hezekiah's Tunnel. My camera had failed at the low light setting and I expected the gift shop to have something with a photo.

“Excellent site”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2014

The City of David shows you what First Temple Jerusalem looked like. The archeology remains are impressive. The newly opened spring house, where the fortress for the Gihon Spring was has been lovingly excavated and restored. You can see Ahiel's house with a real First Temple time toilet as well as the place where the bullae were found.

“A must when visiting Jerusalem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2014

A fascinating insight into First Temple Jerusalem. Most historical places in the Old City center on the Second Temple period - this is both geographically and historically a different place altogether.
We took the guided tour but with some background reading and pretty good signs all around the place, you can do it on your own. The 3D movie helps with the background stuff.
The tunnel is definitely cool (bring a flashlight!), the water wasn't too cold even in March. Should bring a change of clothes, water reaches up to your hips during the first few meters and then down to your knees the rest of the way. Definitely worth a visit even if you don't go in the water (there is an alternative dry tunnels for those who don't).
Very good explanations about the waterworks and the archaeological findings.
The only downside is that the place is smack in the middle of a pretty seedy-looking Arab neighborhood - pretty ugly view and smell especially when you come out of the tunnel in the Siloam pool. You're better off taking the tunnel to the Western Wall Plaza rather than taking the van back to the entrance.

“Do The City of David Tour.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2014 via mobile

This is the tour you want.
3 hours including walk through Hezekiah's Tunnel.
At 10am & 1pm, Sunday - Friday, winter season.
60 NIS includes 3-D movie, guided-tour & Hezekiah's Tunnel.

Tour guide excellent. Passionate. Funny. Thoroughly cared about our safety.
Staff throughout facility (with exception of convenience store) especially helpful and courteous.

Option to walk wet or dry tunnel. Can decide during the tour. (Recommend wet. We did even when 50 degrees F outside.)

Food & drink available on-site (convenience store).
Facilities available.

Note: If doing on own, exit Dung Gate (beside Western Wall). Out of gate, turn left and walk down sidewalk along wall to first road to the right. City of David Visitor Center is 100 meters down road on left. Construction ongoing. Area looks a little shady. Don't be scared. You are in the right place.

“Great tour!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2014

It's a great tour and I love walking through the underground tunnel. My advise is to take a walk inside the "wet" tunnel! Don't choose the dry one. And bring a torch!
