“For Jerusalem this is a good place to go (if you eat non-kosher)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2010

Very nice bar - good selection of cocktails, wine and restaurant menu. The bar is comfortable for two people to sit together (either spouse, significant other or friend) and have a great night out.

Sometimes the table service is not so hot. But the quality food and good atmosphere make up for it. It is always busy - so book in advance. If they're full go to Mona (which I prefer anyway) it's not far from here on Shmuel HaNagid Street in the Artist's House.

“Good food, good service and lovely atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2010

When booking this restaurant we were warned that only outside tables were available in a 'sort of garden'. Having read really good reviews, we decided to book anyway and actually this was an excellent option. We ate at a table away from the street and overlooking a quiet park, much better than eating inside which seemed a little noisy.

While not a bargain, the food and wine were excellent, as was the service which was friendly and efficient without a feeling of being rushed. I had a delicious mushroom risotto which was perfectly cooked, while my husband had an enormous steak, again excellent. We will definitely eat there again when we are next in Jerusalem.

“Very overrated, though I saw Rahm Emanuel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2010

My wife and I were in Jerusalem for our anniversary, and - based on the dominance of Chakra on Trip Advisor - made a reservation here for our celebratory dinner.

The food is, simply, not that good! And certainly not worth the expense - about $150 for 2. The staff was rude (standard for Israel). The entrecote i ordered was gooey and chewy; the sauces were heavy and lacked finesse. We're from San Francisco, and frankly, at that price range, we expect a lot better.

However, one "cool factor" was that we bumped into Obama's Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel celebrating his son's bar mitzvah. Still, don't make the same mistake we did - save your money and try somewhere else instead.

“Best Jerusalem Choice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2010

This place really is excellent by any standards. The service and food was the best we had during our 2 week trip to Israel. If there is squid anywhere on the menu grab it; best we have ever had. Other seafood also incredibly fresh and perfectly prepared. Great Israeli wine selections with very knowledgeable waitstaff. Wish we had gone back a second night.

“Restaurant was overrated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2010

Chakra has moved from the address in the current Frommer's Israel guide book that we had. It took us a while to discover it's new location at 41 King George Street, hidden behind another coffee cafe. We did not find the menu as inventive as others claimed it was. The appetizers were good. However, the main course selections on the menu were not that appealing. One of us had flat sizzling steak. It was tasty but nothing exceptional. Two of us had goat cheese ravioli which was a lot of similar taste and very rich. One of us had creme brulee for dessert which was excellent and the other had ice cream dessert which was good. The richness of the ravioli coupled with the creme brulee made me sick later that evening so it is hard for me to recommend this restaurant.
