Me, my father and my brother just came back from a 3 night stay at the Princess Hotel, whose reputation is as one of the most sumptuous hotels the city of Eilat has to offer. And it is priced accordingly.
However, the overall experience we had was beyond disappointing.
Due to flights overbooking, I arrived before my father and brother did. As I came to the counter, they refused to give me the room stating that only the person on whose name the booking is registered is allowed to take it. I explained them the circumstances and showed my ID, but no use. They were perfectly ok with making their guest wait room-less for a few hours, not offering any apology, complimentary drink or so whatsoever.
After a phone call from my (slightly angry) father, they let me have the room.
As for the room itself, we booked a room for 3, which we got. The room itself was ok more or less: it was clean and tidy, and beds were reasonably comfortable. But this is very far from the standard which we expected and for which we paid for. It looks like an average minus 3 star hotel. The pictures above are naturally outdated, and design is as poor as it can possibly be, showing some staple case of tastelessness.
While in the room I had a look at the room service menu, which ridiculously poor. Offering their costumers dishes such as toast with simple cheese and so on, is inappropriate for a hotel boasting such a reputation.
Then I decided to descend to the bar for a cocktail and a snack, and the horror began.
The whole hotel public areas were full of children and their parents, literally screaming their lungs out and running berserk all over the place. It looked more like a drunk version of disneyland than a respectable hotel lobby. Needless to say, the staff didn't do anything to change this situation.
As I sat on the bar, which was bombarded by rude children yelling at the bartender "give me water with ice!!!", I tried gently to order. It took quite a long time until someone was free enough from handing out water with ice to take my order.
The cocktail menu the hotel suggested had badly balanced cocktails and nothing fit for a light aperitif, so I requested the bartender to prepare me a Negroni, a known classic, simple to prepare that any basically trained bartender can handle. After 1 minute the bartender asked me what is a Negroni, and how do you prepare it. After I explained him how to do this "complicated" task, it took another 15 minutes till I got my drink, as they had to ask the manager how to price this - since it wasn't on the menu.
The food was ok, but the overall noise and turbulence was too much. Since this was the only bar at the hotel, I tried to bear this.
The next day, when we came back in the evening, the room was just as we left it in the morning - house keeping probably forgot us.
we went out for dinner, and when me and my brother came back (somewhere between midnight and 1AM), there was a security guard from the hotel shouting at us in a most disrespectful tone "Are you guys from the hotel? Which room are you in?" I replied, and as I was about to leave, a shout ensued "Are you together in that room? Stop right there and answer all my questions now!"
This was too much for me. I told the man right away he has to keep his tone down and respect the establishment by which he is employed. He started threatening me with detention and so on, but I appeased him but let him know his attitude is totally unacceptable. I figured out the person was probably some kind of an undereducated brute incapable of any other more decent tone of speech - which is entirely not my problem. He should not be employed there.
This morning, we left very early so we requested in advance to have packed breakfast ready for us, which was in order - until we opened it later. It included 2 tiny sandwiches, some vegetables, fruits and some weird cake. Vegetables were good and fresh but the rest was of very poor quality and hardly edible.
Overall I would say, we were greatly disappointed by our experience. It is clear this hotel is poorly managed and poorly maintained (their inability to fix our struggling air condition being one example). The crowd who comes there is some of the most disgusting people I had the privilege of encountering in a long while, and hotel staff shows no effort to maintain even the minimal level of a decorum expected in such an establishment.
I would strongly recommend anyone looking for a luxurious place to stay to go anywhere but Princess Hotel.
Myself, I shall certainly not stay there again anytime soon.
