“A perfect hotel experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2008

Out of the range of hotels available in Eilat I chose to book the Yam Suf (Ambassador) based solely on the positive reviews found here on TripAdvisor...so it seems only right that I now come to review the place myself to help out other travellers!

The good news is, I wasn't disappointed!

My boyfriend and I stayed there between the 15th and 22nd of December, half board. The breakfast buffet was the best I had experienced in Israel, a lot of choice and variety and very tasty :)

We stayed on the fifth floor (we asked for a high floor in advance which they arranged) and had views over the sea, Jordan and the pool. The room was spotlessly clean and attended to very well by the daily maid staff. Unlike some hotels I've stayed in in Israel, there were not daily bottles of water provided, but there was a bottle of water and fruit basket on our first day.

The pool area and gardens were the main highlight for us, there were rocking chairs, mattresses, loungers, sofas, bedouin tents...everything you could want to relax. There was plenty of shaded green areas for those who wanted to be out of the sun. We spent most days just relaxing by the pool, the pool is large enough for a good swim and was again spotlessly clean. There are lots of palm trees and it's generally a very nice environment. It was also incredibly quiet, no doubt it will get busier this week now the schools have broken up for Channukah.

The hotel is set away from the main part of town, you can walk to the underwater observatory but not to the main part of Eilat. There is a free bus every hour into town though and the journey is 10 mins at the most. I don't think there's anything int he main part of town worth going to see though. If you're on holiday just to relax you can do that where the Yam Suf is. The restaurant choice in town or directly by the hotel is not on a par with Tel Aviv, but the dinner in the hotel was very good. If we were to come again I'd pay to upgrade to full board as it's quite expensive to 'pay as you go' in the hotel.

There's free wifi in Aroma next to the hotel if you bring your laptop, or there's internet for 25 sheks per hour in the hotel.

The staff were all very friendly, I couldn't recommend this hotel highly enough. Nicer than any hotel I've every stayed in in Israel :-D

When I arrived in Israel my first impression of hotels was the Ambassador. If your first time in Eilat don't be surprise you may pass it once or twice and not notice it. Almost all the people staying at the hotel are from within Israel.
The pros: Clean, very secure, green atmosphere, if you eat kosher.
The cons: Very expensive dinner if not included with your stay, can be hard to find for first timer to Eilat, TV not working, and entry door to room would sometimes not lock. If you don't eat kosher.

Our room had direct, open view to the red sea and the mountains of Jordan behind. It was just great. We were on the fifth floor in the back part of the hotel.

It was good that we had a car, as we used it every day whether to go to the city or one of the attractions in and around Eilat.

The beach was great for snorkeling. Take your own equipment. You can just go into the beach and swim into the preserve where the fish and corals are fantastic.

Breakfast was very good other than on Saturday when the warm dishes are pathetic - but you can not blame the hotel too much, as they are forced to do it to keep their "kosher" certificate.

We ate dinner at the hotel only once, not at the buffet, but the bar. The pizza was very good and the service was great.

The pool is good for swimming.

If you are looking for a great pool scene with parks and slides, etc. this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a relaxing place to start the day and come back after a day of exploring, then this is a great place for you. Additionally, being just there at one of the best snorkeling places is great because you can just sneak in a dive before or after an activity.

We did take the trip to Petra. It was well worth it as the site is really something special. Nevertheless, be prepared for a 13 hour affair of which 4 are spent in Petra. The rest is spent traveling or crossing borders.

The underwater observatory was also good, but you can also go to a great restaurant for a similar experience. It is called the "Red Sea Star". Food was good and it was great to see all the fish swimming by the window while you have dinner.

I will defer to those who say this hotel is good for divers, but if you are not a diver, this hotel may not be for you. It is not located on the main strip or directly on the beach which was a disappointment for me as I had never been to Eilat before and I would not stay there again for this reason.

Other reasons include the poor, poor reception service and the buffet at night where there were many screaming children running rampant through the dining room and sticking their hands directly in the food. That said, if you have children, this may be the perfect hotel for you. The buffet was great. Unfortunately, the breakfast buffet did not open until 8am the day I was there and that was very inconvenient for us and other visitors I saw in the lobby asking about and looking for it.

The rooms were average at best. This is a perfectly functional hotel for certain types of travelers (divers, people with children who don't want to be directly on the beach). There was a nice view although our room was right outside the cleaning closet.

We have just spent 8 nites at the Isrotel Ambassador - or Yam Suf as it is known in Eilat. We had THE most wonderful stay, made all the better by an outstanding front desk gentlman, Guy Kedem. I'm only writing this up to support all the great reviews the hotel has been getting and to say they are all well deserved. For those who prefer eating dinner out, the very best fish restaurant in the whole of Eilat is virtually across the road - The Last Refuge - and that I would consider an added bonus to the incredible position of this fine hotel.

The hotel is totally unpretentious - what you see is what you get. You can go to the dining room in a swimming costume and t-shirt. Although much of the staff is not fluent in English, they try and please your every request and do not stand with their hands out waiting for a tip.

I wish we could go back again with our grandchildren - the place is paradise for kids.

We have recently returned from a delightful week's stay at your wonderful hotel. The accomodation was superb and the balcony sea-view quite breath-taking.The choice at meal-times was phenomenal and the presentation unbelievable.Public relations were very caring, particularly when they arranged for my wife to go to hospital after being stung whilst snorkelling,A few days after leaving the hotel for Jerusalem,we were surprised and very pleased when P.R. phoned our cell-phone to enquire if my wife was recovered, which we were able to confirm that everything was in order and thank them for their concern,The ambiance of the hotel was very pleasing and we are looking forward to returning after Succoth. We stayed at the Isrotel Ambassador for two nights, mostly as a jumping-off place for diving and visiting Petra, Jordan (which is fantastic. Go to Petra!). In that regard, the location is great, especially with the Manta dive shop on the premises. (Note: if you are not an advanced diver, you may find that your diving options are limited at the Manta. Check directly with the dive shop so you know if there are dives at your level scheduled on the days you will be in Eilat).

The other advantages of the hotel's location are the 5-minute walk to the excellent Eilat aquarium and the coral reef preserve (well worth a snorkel!).

However, the hotel itself is poorly staffed. Often a trainee with poor English is the only person at the desk or by the pool. We had several service mixups, including the time it took an hour (!) to get a key replaced.

Additionally, the single in-hotel restaurant is pretty bland (Well, what do you expect for kosher hotel food? Don't eat dinner at the hotel.)

If you have children, you'll probably love that you can let them loose in the nice pool area and in the halls. If you don't have kids... bring some earplugs, which will also help you block out the cheesy evening lounge singers.

In short: This might be one of the better hotels in Eilat, particularly if you have children. But it's not memorable or worth coming back to. Much like Eilat itself.
